Anyone who knows where the horn and the air compressor is situated on a 348? I have taken off the covers under the head lights but nothing there. Do not say it is inside the front bumper???

It does not tell in my workshop manual.

    Regards.

The compressor for the air horn is under the removable panel on the right side of the front trunk, just behind the headlight door, right next to the tank for the window washer. (Edit: the compressor isn't in plain sight, you have to look under the liner, towards the outside of the fender).

The horns themselves (the "trumpets") are right in the center of the car, behind the false grille. If you stick your head under the front bumper and look up, you can see them.

I suspected that it wouldn´t be easy to get to them. If I stick my head under the bumper there is the bottom of the trunk. Can´t see nothing. Do I have to take the bumper out? How do I do that?

The reason for all this...........I used to have a Maserati compressor horn with 5 trumpets and that compressor needed some oil every now and then.

And this one only blows through one trumpet and sounds like a small Fiat with flat tyre. No fun at all..........very disturbing.

Have to see what is wrong......or buy a new one.

By loosening a few screws, you can pull up the trunk liner to get a better shot at the compressor. When I got my 348, I had to add a little bit of oil to the compressor to make the horn sound right. It hasn't needed more oil in the 7 years since. I used Snap-On air tool oil in mine, just a little bit.

The trumpets are RIGHT behind the front grille, in front of the front wall of the trunk. I just checked again on my car, if you stick your head right under the center of the front bumper and look straight up, the two trumpets are there, behind the bumper but in front of the trunk wall. If you're seeing the bottom of the trunk, you're looking too far back.

There you go. Well done, Phil!

Notice the single air line that comes from the compressor, then branches off in two to the individual trumpets. Also notice that the trumpets are tilted slightly downwards, so any water that splashes up there shouldn't get trapped inside.

I'm sure you can fix your horn so it doesn't sound like a flatulent Fiat.

Ok........so what I have to do is to loosen the liner inside the trunk and try to get it from there.

The front bumper on my car is connected to the trunk bottom so I can not see anything from underneath.

Thanks anyway.......will let you know how it all ended up.

By the way..........have tried to send some photos but I can´t make it work.

Upload failed it says all the time.......any ideas???

    Regards,

Would anyone out there (Pap, anyone???) just happen to have any sound bites that would tell us what the 348 horn is supposed to sound like? For heaven's sake, the first time I hit the horn button on my car, I turned red with embarrassment! I really hope there is something wrong with mine! At least that way I might be able to recover some of my dignity! :D:D:D
