    I'm in the process of buying a '98 355 F1 and I just found out from the mechanic a leak was discovered coming from the F1 actuator. Does anybody know if this part can be fixed by taking it apart, or at the very least sent somewhere to be repaired? The part is $7,000 from Ferrari and I'm hoping there is either an equivalent part or another source that sells it for less. Can anybody out there shed some light on this?

    Just a quick tip... why would you close the deal on the car if you know it needs an actuator? What about the pump? What about the TCU? Seems to me, there are plenty of F355's to choose from that don't need that kind of pre-purchase investment. (PPI, if you pardon the pun)

    Actually Daniel this problem could be the deal breaker. The car only has 7600 miles and I'm quite surprised to hear of this problem. I don't know the status of the pump or the TCU at this time.

    A very reputable F-chatter mechanic is doing the PPI. The leakdown tests and compression were what you would expect from a 7600 mile car. I'm just mind boggled with this actuator problem on a car with barely any miles. I know typical Ferrari ownership!

    or the deal maker----knowing this needs to be done--factor that into the buying and haggling price
