I am sure there aren't any easy racing but man why montoya always talk badly about MS. I also think it is wrong for MS to say what is exciting about nascar.
What else would you expect him to say? Anyone nominate Montoya for taking over Eddie "The Mouth" Irvine's nickname? CW
Montoya is, and always will be, just an ass. He should just keep his mouth shut when it comes to talking about anyone else and just do his job.
Not that this is related to Montoya or NASCAR but it got me thinking about how much I enjoyed watching Mansell come to Indy cars many years ago. My pie-in-the-sky dream would be to see MS run an Indy car for a season.
Those of us who keep up with F1 and other racing already know about Schumacher's comments during the week of the first USGP at Indy that he would be too frightened to drive in NASCAR due to the cars high speeds so close to concrete walls...
Agreed. Maybe you can look up the quote for us? I seem to recall his saying there was no point in racing in such a situation. That is a bit of a stretch to concluding that he's frightened.
Nope, he said he was frightened. As recall it was in the Indy newspaper during the first USGP at Indy race week...
Montoya has been and always will be a whiner. If there were an autograph signing in the US for Montoya and Schumi, my guess is that Americans would show up for Shumi at least 100 to one. The only Montoya fan that I have ever met was in Aspen at an exotic car show. He told me he was from Columbia. PNH
I arrived at a test day at Mid-Ohio at 10:AM. They were loading Mansell's red 5 car back on the transporter. I asked what was going on. He had already ran at the track record and was done. 2 months later at Indy he was top 5 in 1 day and had never seen the place.
Perhaps Ferrari should just field a car at Daytona and just shutup NASCAR and Montoya once and for all......God i'm so tired of hearing what's better, who's better etc.....just RACE !
Montoya was as useless in F1 as Alex Rodriguez is in a MLB playoff game. Why is he worried about Schumacher??? I always thought JPM was a tool, and his comments only confirm my thoughts about him. JPM, please STFU and drive-you have a talent-use it wisely. It's not too late for you to stop acting like a *****....
I remember Michael saying that oval racing seemed dangerous to him. Besides and after conquering F1, which he believed to be the pinnacle of racing, he didn't have anything to prove by going to ovals, DTM or any other class of racing. He refused rallying as well. Basically retirement in toto was the plan of action. Montoya would have got a huge paycut if he stayed in F1 and would have had a tough time finding a ride with the top teams - Renault, Ferrari said no. McLaren would have chucked him. Which basically leaves teams like Red Bull where DC would have blocked him. Williams might have considered him if there were willing to let bygones be bygones - doubtful though. So Montoya did the best thing he could - get a Nascar ride. Open wheel racing is on the decline and top drivers are all looking to get themselves entrenched in the Nascar money machine. And parkerfe - why don't you ask your buddy Alonso to come to Nascar - see what he has to say
Michael thought it was dangerous but I doubt he was scared of it-you don't become a seven time WDC by being scared. As for Alonso, he left more talent on the barbershop floor than JPM ever had in his entire body. I can't say JPM was a has-been in F1-he was a "never was"....maybe Clay was right about JPM...
I don't care how challenging it is, NASCAR is soooooooo boring. I don't understand the draw but they say it is the fastest growing sport in the US... ???
You must be joking. My guess is that only one out of 100 Americans AT BEST even knows who Schumacher is. Montoya is a former Indy 500 winner, he is far, far better known to Americans than MS. Furthermore, Montoya was simply responding to comments made by Schumacher. If there is anyone who should keep his mouth shut about NASCAR, it is Schumacher, not Montoya. You can say what you will about JPM but as far as I am concerned, he has far more courage in a race car than Schumacher and, unlike Schumacher, he has no fear of who his teammate is.
Scared of being teamed with a competitive driver on equal terms, maybe... Refresh my memory...how many wins did JPM have? How many pole positions?
I doubt that Americans will remember/care much for Montoya. After all he is a foreigner. The local boys would know a Foyt or Unser or Rahal or Gordon or T. Stewart and definitely a Earnhardt but Montoya - I doubt it. The fans who will come to cheer for Monty will be mostly the latin crowd and not the blue collar US crowd that is the backbone of NASCAR. As for your comment regarding Monty's courage - I agree. I thought he always drove with his heart like Alesi. Some of his overtaking moves were really cool! I used to be a Monty fan till he faded in 2005. I agree with your comments. All Michael was saying that he didnt see what was the big deal in risking himself to fight for the NASCAR crown. To him, NASCAR wasn't a worthy pursuit. All racing is dangerous. I remember Michael had a couple of serious shunts (mostly in testing) that he was lucky to walk away from. So there was danger in F1 - it just that the perceived reward to him was more than sufficient to make him endure it. I brought up Alonso only because he is parkerfe's idol - the man who cant do no evil in his eyes.
I still am a JPM fan and think he got a raw deal in F1. I always thought he had the potential to be a World Champion. People seem to forget there was a time when JPM was mentioned alongside Kimi and Fernando as Schumacher's successor.
Competitive driver on equal terms? MS beat every teammate he had-In 2005 JPM won 3 GPs-the most GP wins in a year for him; his teammate, KR, won 7. In fact, over his entire career JPM won 7 races... Refresh my memory, how many WDC did JPM win???? OK, how many times did he finish second?
He was actually talking about Indycar oval racing, not stock cars. And as far as him being wrong about how dangerous and stupid it is to run 220 MPH within inches of a concrete wall, just ask Nelson Piquet. Very talented three-time World Champ with barely a scratch in his entire F1 career, he shattered his legs trying to race in the Indy 500. Oval racing has a long way to go to match F1 safety standards...
