Hi guys, I'm about to buy either a Gallardo Egear or 360CS for about the same price. Both are late '04 cars, the Gallardo is in superb condition with under 7K miles & a new tubi while the 360CS is often tracked, 20K miles but well maintained. I'm looking for a daily driver & some long distances while probably track it a couple of times a year. So, I don't need an outright trackcar.

I've driven the Gallardo, it's fast, easy, stable & sounds good. Very reliable so far except a US$4500 clutch job/upgrade. But I don't like the brake pedal feel (drop a 20mm or so before it feels to engage), auto downshift is a little disturbing & moving off in 1st jerks. Also it has poor rear visibility.

I've not driven any 360s, not to mention the CS but friends who own it says it can be twitchy, sensitive throttle, too loud & hard for daily. More expensive to maintain. Sadly, I can't test the CS unless I confirm it.

What's your experience? I like the fact that the CS is a little rarer & looks better than the standard 360. I've had a 348 & TR so a change in brand would be interesting.

Others will come soon but the CS may be harder and noisier inside for long journeys

More to the point if you are not allowed to test a car before buying it there has to be a reason so do not buy it

It's a used car dealer & very aggressive salespeople there. Car's history is good & previous owner is a fussy guy about maintenance. There's less than a dozen CS over here & only 2 available now.

I'm not sure how the E-gear system works since I've never driven a Gallardo, but the CS F1 transmission will also auto-downshift for you. You are able to downshift manually if you choose to do so, but the computer will downshift automatically otherwise...

If you're going to be driving it daily, I'm not sure a CS would be the best choice if you're looking for comfort or amenities. It's a ridiculously fun car, but if you're into nice leather seats, carpeting, and so forth, I'd probably go for the Gallardo. You mentioned you have friends who own a CS? See if they could either take you for a ride in theirs or let you try it out first...

IMHO the CS is a VERY comfortable daily driver. I do not understand why so many claim that it is loud, stiff, twitchy, hard, etc. Does anyone actually drive their CS enough to make these claims? The seats are incredibly comfortable, the noise is not bad at all... if you can call it noise. Its a Ferrari for God's sake!!! Twitchy? Really? Better check your air pressure. The CSs are extremely well planted at speed. My CS is so comfortable, I could sleep in the thing :)

Gallardo is adoptive to daily driving, cheaper to maintain, 4 wheel drive in case it snows, but absolutely no trunk space. Also, if you can look at early 05 models they have “lifting” capabilities to go over bumps/humps and steep driveways.

Heck, they’re both loud not matter what, it’s the nature of these cars, get continental for quietness.

I agree with the above but I wouldn't want to use my CS as a daily driver. A daily driver to me means parking anywhere, shopping for groceries, multiple start/stop trips, interior stuffed with paraphenalia, and prosac driving in car that's often rather dirty. My honda works just fine for that. Making my CS do what my honda does every day would simply stress me out and subtract from the more unique, special engagement I feel when I take my CS out for spirited driving. I think I'd feel the same about a Gallardo as well. If I just had to have a high performance daily driver I'd get a porsche and let it blend in with the eons of other porsches chugging along.

About 10 months ago I was in the exact same place. I was ready to jump and buy a 2004 Black Gallardo.

I test drove it and was pretty impressed. It was really fast, quiet, stable, easy in the city and fast on the highway. The cons were its speed was deceptive ..which made the experience a little sterile and w/o drama. The interior was downright boring and at 6'3 I barely fit.

The dealer also had a 1999 Euro 360 for sale which was a lesser car imo..and I was about ready to get the Gallardo when ..by chance..I called up Scottsdale Ferrari and asked about Stradales. Just by chance they had one. I drove it. I bought it. No regrets.

but yes as other people point out. It can be a bit loud on long trips. But other than that ..I cant think of anything else bad to say

We have to keep in mind this dude lives in the UK (or am I wrong?) and the Euro version is a lot louder than the US version.

I just got a F430 spider and have a few guys that want to buy my CS. It's most likely the closest to mint around. So last nite I went out for a drive in it to clear my head. I can't decide whether to sell it or not! I think it is without a doubt the most beautiful modern fcar. It is fun. But if you are doing long trips in it you may want an interior ...not to mention the low front end.

The Gallardo was a car I considered. It has a frequency it would hit where it would resonate on my eardrums and that was bothersome. Daily driver? You may be an abuse magnet just for service if nothing else.

The CS is a special event to drive. At the L.A. auto show I was chatting w/ the Bugatti rep ad they asked me what I own, and I told them. Once I mentioned the CS their atitude lit up and they then invited me to test drive the Veyron.....which I did

    http://www.upscaleaudio.com/updates/various.htm

So it is that great.....but it ain't got a cupholder

360CS no questions asked! BTW you said for same price, either the 360CS is way under priced, or the Gallardo is heavily over priced! Cheapest 360cs i have seen was a silver one on cars.com for in 160's, an 06 Gallardo is selling for 160k RIGHT NOW on cats exotics, not an 04!

boys, that is my first post here, but I just sold my Gallardo for an F430. So I better save this lost soul..

I owned a 360 spider before that and a Quattroporte, but never even sat into a CS.

So what was it like to own a Gallardo :

    - You feel very special, actually a little bit too much, I had issue with police... they were stopping me any chance they get... cause Gallardo is still very original to their uneducated eyes and tinted windows is not helping..

The sound is amazing in high rev, but the V10 has a lot of inertia and it makes the car feel not very reactive on city travel. Highway and track is certainly not a problem, altough the car direction feel quite heavy in comparison to 360 and 430.

The best part is confort, temperature is correct, GPS, lifting system (my gosh I hate the noise of the 360 front scratching on parking slope), and the Hifi system is very good (you can put SD card behind the flipping screen)

it is like a big TT my friend.. very reliable, I didn't change the clutch on a E-gear car with 19k Km.

Actually the engine is so reliable they stuck it in 2 Audi 4 doors saloon.....

the worst part, is that it's not a Ferrari.... in the street I heard children screaming : "MOMMMMM, LOOOKKKK AT THE YELLLLLOW FERRRAAARRI !!!"

and when you search in your pocket, you'll find a plastic black key that look very much Audi to me... My F430"s key may be in red cheap plastic too, but at least there's a prancing horse I desperately love on it...

your heart is already won over, cause you've post on Ferrarichat ;)

the gallardo seems to fit your needs more but i second that the price of the 04 gallardo should be lower..i hear the 06 gallardos are improved and that's what you should be comparing a heavily used CS to.

Thank you guys, the answer I concluded is that the '04 CS is probably a better car than an '04 Gallardo while the '06 Gallardo is better than the '04 CS. But the '06 G is a lot more expensive than an '04 CS here. I'm trying to arrange for a test drive on the CS this weekend.

I'm still not quite sold on the '04 Gallardo as it felt a little "sterile" like what some said & city driving might be a little rough over the '06 while the lifter would be a great option for me but it's a little too much for me now.

I used my 348 & Testa as daily cars without much issue & my Testa has the same sports seats as the CS, so it's no big deal to me & pretty comfortable. I don't mind the non-carpet issue & love the all Carbon cabin. It's just that the CS costs more to maintain eg. tyres, ceramic brakes, belt job etc.

FYI, a brand new 07 Gallardo costs US$512900 over here now without options added. The Stradale was something like US$550000 when it was new then. But we get back about US$175000 when we export it in 10yrs time.

Both the used CS & '04 Gallardo I'm looking @ costs me US$350,000 now! But we get back about US$175000 when I export it in about 8 yrs time.

You guys think the Stradale will be a collector's item in future? :D

I have an Oct 04 build date CS and not one problem in 7800 miles. I have done 300 mile drives with no complaint. Its not real loud at 70mph in 6th and I have a Tubi NGT and hyper flows, it was more than comfortable for 5 hours in the seat, and twitchy throtle=don't know how to drive. Hands down over the G, even if it was $50K less or $50K more!

Another thought, I have an 07 BMW M6 inbound. For the money it is an unreal car. It beats the G car on the top end (best bone stock with limit removed is 211mph), 100-0, is dead even 0-60, and it cost way less. Buy an M6, spend some money on mods and it is a real head turner, crazy fast, comfort beyond the G and did I mention FAST!

Here in So Cal, an 04 Gallardo is around 140K, and a Stradale is usually around 50-60K more. I would still take the CS over the Gallardo, even with huge price difference. A new 07 vs. a Stradale would be a harder decision, but at the end of the day, the Stradale is a Stradale. The Lambo is an awesome car, but far from collectible. Keep in mind that Gallardo's lose a ton of value, real quick.

Keep in mind, I am not taking into consideration that the car would be a daily driver. If that is the case, I would not take either one. There are a lot of idiots and haters out there, and either car would be torn apart in most parking lots.
