Well, for starters its my job and since im always doing this sort of stuff its not that hard. Secondly I take pictures, very specific ones that get me out of trouble from time to time. Also I measure every bolt, stud, washer, record head diameter, length, bolt size, colour, location and any special markings such as "lobo" on a bolt head. This way they get plated the colour they were and go back where they belong. I was surprised on the engine to gearbox mounting studs, there are 4 different types so I recorded the location of the specific sizes. Prior to plating I record the number of fasteners like just how many bolts, how many studs and washers but not specifically the sizes. This way I know if anything is lost in the plating process and I can narrow it down and bust some balls. I refer back to the charts when I come to a specific part I want to install, look it up and see how many of what and what colour they were, most stuff I can identfy on looks alone but I still need the charts or it would take me a much longer time.

2001 cobra mustang. Rebuilding them keeps me busy and takes time away from the 308.

Ignore the fitipaldi wheel, its getting replaced when I get around to it. The tanks are in, the cables, hoses, etc, still have to install the cross-over pipes with new hose connectors then the engine can go back in. The dash, heater and air conditioning box is in. The pedals have new rubber pads, the gas pedal is powder coated (yes its incorrect but durable), shifter and e-brake lever are all there as is the headliner and lamp. Ill concentrate on the engine bay for now then work on the brakes and get new tires on the QV rims so I can get it down on the ground for the first time since 04 and have it actually look like a car again.

    Absolutely fantastic!

Why the red paint on the coils in post 304?

inspection marks, Ill pass on all the yellow dabs all over the suspension bolts though. Im not going for concours correct either, more to the over-restored catagory and tasteful improvements like less weight and the euro look on a North american spec car with a little more power. The problem im faced with is I wont keep the car long term as my wants have changed so do I sell it right away once finished so its not even dusty and get the most dollar I can, or drive it and take less down the road. Im not sure yet.

The trick I use with the yellow dab, on any car, is: A yellow dab of paint tells ME that I have torqued that bolt/nut/etc. If I find an unpainted fastner I have found a potential accident.

Yes thats the reason for it on the assembly line as well. I double check everything so the paint isnt needed in this case, plus i just dont like the look of it after everything has been plated. Personal preference thats all.

The color marking is used to indicate the measured load applied to the spring in order to compress it to its working length. It's difficult to make all the springs exactly the same so they sort them into sub-groups and use the color-coding to easily keep track of "pairs" on the assembly line -- see page F4 in the 308GT4 WSM.

Steve, is there anything you don't know? ;) Man, how do you remember all this trivia?? You are the only guy I know who has probably memorized the owner's manual and service manual for all the previous generation of Ferraris!

Hey no problem, a large portion of the pics got lost in the f-chat melt down a while back so some of the stuff is gone and the order isnt great but you all get the idea. Ive learned a lot about the brand from this one car so for me its worth every penny as well as my time.

Congrats on progress so far. Great color. I'm going to start an anything but red movement. Have you found hose for the blower to heater connection yet? If so, where?

I didnt need to replace the hoses for the blowers and Im glad. They cleaned up very well, had no holes or anything and im not sure where I would get an exact replacement.

Thanks for all the positive feed back everyone, as for the fuse blocks mine are mint so I decided to retain the factory ones as good as birdmans upgrade would be.

If it were me, I would at least drive it a little (1,000 miles or so) to enjoy the fruits of my labor and also to make sure all the bugs are worked. I don't think thoses few miles after such an extensive rebuild would reduce the selling price any.
