While posting about good roads on the east coast, I thought it could make for a fun thread. My experience on these roads is mostly on my Harley, though I do like to run them hard in the auto when I can.

So, here's my list of the Best Roads in the World.

    Slainte!

It's true. The roads are well maintained, lightly traveled and a lot of fun. Unfortunately, speed limits on the BRP are artificially low and strictly enforced.

Other than that, I'd just as soon keep western NC's secondary roads a secret!

Just my personal top ten to get the ball rolling. Also on my list would be the drive from Chamonix to Biella. Or, driving up to Cervinia. The passes are probably spectacular to drive over in the summer. I have a lot to learn :).

Beartooth pass is great as well as the BRP. Going to the sun road is awesome as well as most of the southern Utah scenic roads. Worst road? I-95 in Florida.

I dunno, it's cool and all, but I drove on part of the 'track' roads a few days after the GP in normal traffic (painted markers and banners were still up) and it wasn't a spectacular drive in and of itself.

I have done your #'s 1, 3 and 5, and I wholeheartedly agree!! I would also add Carmel Valley Road from Carmel to Greenfield, CA. And for an alternate route into Carmel Valley, go over Laureles Grade from Hwy 68.

Hwy 17 from Santa Cruz to San Jose (or vice versa) could also be a good drive if there was ever a time when traffic wasn't too crappy to let you open it up a little.

in my own backyard is a good one, Monitor Pass highway 89, the summit is about 8400ft but flat and about a mile long. i've traveled it half a dozen times and have run into '0' thats right zero traffic, no cops no planes and lots of canyon carving along with long stretches for top speed runs.. closed during winter though.

Squaw Pass in Colorado. Elevation 11,000ft. 8 miles or so of curvey, rarely traveled road.
Actually many roads like this in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

okay wow, i've never figured it before. the cut off for the pass is 6 miles from south lake tahoe, it then runs about 30 miles over to the 395. it so twisty it takes nearly 2hrs to travel it, unless ofcourse you've got a set of BIG ones! past the summit there is no room for error, one slip and it's pearly gates time! but oh what a road, passengers tend to get queasy though.

3 I have driven "At Speed" in a variety of cars

Deals Gap (Tail of the Dragon) NC Fantastic (Porsche North America Media event)

HWY 1 (Big Sur) CA wow (Dodge SRT8 wagon of doom)

Mil Cumbres (Morillia Mexico) #1 road in North America. Roumered to be 1000 corners in 30 miles Mountains and NO GUARDRAILS TO SPOIL THE VIEW just a few crosses where momentum and skill were over taken by overconfidence and gravity

100% agree. In fact, any of the 3 Corniche roads between Monaco and Nice would qualify, if you're talking about the "world".

BTW, someone said the Vegas strip. I think this topic is "best", not "worst", roads in the world.

Camino Cielo would be #1 if it was maintained nicely. As it is, it does not deserve to be on the list. At least not west Camino Cielo.
