I do not own these pics, they belong to my good friend and soon-to-be Ferrari Master Technician, Andy Prior.

Seriously, what was the Enzo there for? Just to tear the thing to pieces and reassemble it?

I actually believe it is a bit more serious than that. I heard something about valve spring failure. Take note this car was sitting for a very long time, so it probably had a host of other problems as well. I won't say too much more though, I'll let the tech speak on that if he wishes to reply.

Valve spring failure, yet the engine is still together, and the whole car is a mess.

The Enzo had a valve spring failure, and needed the steering rack replaced. The steering rack is inside the tub, behind the dash, and the engine has to come out for valve spring replacement. The steering rack was just finished before the pics were taken, and The valve springs hadnt been started yet. Also, I the valve spring problem was found before it was able to do any damage to the rest of the engine. The Enzo only has like 730 miles on it.

Why disconnect it? There are other ways to cut the power.

there were bits of valve spring found on the drainplug when the oil was being changed... the car ran perfectly before disassembly. there have been enzos in the past that have dropped a valve and it resulted in piston to valve contact. it's an issue with the valve spring material so instead of selling the car and risk a failure at a later date, we decided we would fix it. also, the engine is taken apart as far as it needs to be. you need access to the front of the engine so you can remove the timing chains and camshafts. no sense in taking the entire engine apart when you're only changing valve springs, right?

the car may look like a mess, but i assure you... after all is said and done you wont be able to tell.

also, the steering rack is being replaced b/c it was leaking slightly. when you pay money for a car like this, it should be perfect.

If I may be so bold as to ask... if not covered by warranty, what would be the cost of this service?

I believe that is the car that was sold for $1.4 million. What a deal! Busted valve spring and all. I wonder what it would have fetched with good valve springs - $1.8 million? :)

Andy, I am curious to know what the flat rate hours are for a job like this through warranty?
