What watch did Magnum Wear in the Series?

It's the Rolex Submariner Datejust. I remember an episode where Thomas is trying to tread water for a certain amount of time, all the while flashing back to his hard nose father telling him he can tread water despite being tired, Thomas looks at his watch with a very clear camera shot...Rolex Sub.

 

Rolex Stainless Steel GMT Master I with an oyster band (Red/Blue Bezel - Arcylic Crystal). Bought one brand new just like it for an undergraduate graduation gift to myself - After a discount $1,100 out the door (Back then you could by a stainless steel Daytona for less than $3K brand new).

Yes, I kick myself every day for not buying the Rolex I wanted 'way back when' for $800. But on the other hand, I did buy 10 shares of Berkshire Hathaway stock, circa 1982, and still have it, problem is it's in an IRA and I can't get to it without losing half the value of it.

Ok, I went back and looked all this up. I had it in my head that it was an Omega, but appears I was wrong on that one. In the first few seasons of Magnum PI, Selleck wore a Chronosport Sea Quartz (now out of business), and later switch over to the Rolex GMT Master.

That is possible. Magnum was always borrowing stuff like the camera with the thousand dollar lenses. Magnum also knew the combination to the safe in Higgins office.

I can see it now...

Magnum sneaks into the wine cellar to get a bottle of 1982 Chateau La Mission Haut Brion. As Magnum walks out of the wine cellar, he notices the doors to Higgins office are open, and Higgins is not there. Magnum enters Higgins office, and decides to pour a spot of brandy while looking through Higgings desk for a cigar. Inside the desk Magnum spots a Rolex. Magnum tries on the Rolex, likes the way it looks, and walks out of the estate to the Ferrari to drive off to buy a Macho Taco fast food special and make it back to the guest house in time for an old western movie.

i have always wanted a "classic" Rolex divers watch. how much are the older ones going for now? i have an uncle in Beverly Hills that owns a jewelry store, but i have not spoken to him in many years. (Morett Jewelry ?)

No. In the episode, "Home From the Sea", Magnum has flashbacks to when he was a kid, and his father gave him his Rolex before shipping off to war. It's a classic Magnum episode.

 

I wear a stainless Submariner as my daily watch...it is very durable and looks good too. I have also been diving with it numerous times over the last decade or so...no problems whatsoever.

It doesn't matter.
Unless I bought oceanfront property in California 25 years ago, at this point in time (today), I don't think RE is as good an investment.

Face it - we ALL wish we had done some things differently when we were younger, investments, real estate, travel, took that job we turned down at Microsoft in 1988, jewelry, exotic cars, STAYED SINGLE, etc.......
