Hey, there's no accounting for taste.
And, as you pointed out, this is certainly a minority opinion.

I love both of the designs and grew up lusting after the 308. However to me the 308 has a classic car from the seventies feel whereas the 328 could easily be a contemporary design.

308 is great design, 328 just a tiny bit more modern! Just a logic evolution over 15 years!

    Off Topic -

Hey Derolez - I just looked at your profile to see if you have a 328 and realised we both have a 328 GTS AND a diesel BMW E60 :) Do you maybe also post on www.e60.net or is it just a boring means of transport?

Love your choice of cars ;-)

    Actually, I prefer the Euro-bumpered 308 over the 328, but the 328 over the American-bumpered 308.

I didn't see to many Ferraris growing up but I did watch Magnum every now and then.

I use to prefer the lines of the 328 but now that I have spent a lot of time with all kinds of Ferraris, I really do prefer the 308 GTB over any 328.

I used to have a US 328, then now a Euro 308 QV. Euro 308 definitely has better lines. I never came to terms with the 328 front end (looked more kit car-ish to me). Although the 328 felt slightly more refined, the 308 felt lighter and more rev happy. I also like the toggle interior switches of the 308. Just my opinion...

My seat-of-the-pants meter did not detect a difference between my two cars. Please keep in mind, I compared a Euro 308 to a US 328 so the power-to-weight ratio is closer (if not same) than if I compared a US 308 to a US 328. I don't have experience with the latter.

Nonetheless, I seem to recall an older 328 Forza article with one of the "experts" saying that the performance is not noticeably different from the 308 QV. From my experience, while the US 328/Euro 308 acceleration/braking performance difference was negligible, the refinement was more distinctly different with the 328 being more so. Therefore, if I was using the car more i.e. more than nice day drives, I would prefer the 328. For my current purpose i.e. driving enjoyment, the Euro 308 is preferred. In keeping with this thread's topic, I also like the Euro 308 look better.

Based on Car & Driver road tests on U.S. cars, the 328 is about 2 seconds quicker 0-60 (5.5 sec versus 7.4). YMMV.

But... if you drove an F430 before taking the 308 and 328 for a spin, I can see how'd detect no difference.

The early 308 GTB 0-60 times published in Road & Track and Car and Driver ranged from 6.4 to 9.4 seconds.

Road & Track in February, 1976 reported 6.4 seconds in Paul Frere's test of a 1975 Euro 308 GTB fiberglass. Paul Frere was a 24 Hours of Le Mans winning driver in 1960.

The February, 1977 Road & Track test of a 1976 US version 308 GTB fiberglass reported 9.4 seconds which was explained by a faulty shifter and poorly adjusted carburetors. The car hesitated on hard acceleration and the test driver had to slowly pull away until he reached 3,000 RPM where he could floor the pedal. When shifting to 2nd gear, the car would often wind up in neutral though the proper gate was selected. The car was road tested by a non professional Road & Track staff driver.

Just some road test tidbits I had that I thought I'd share.

    What does "YMMV" mean?
