From the 10 Jan issue of Autocar (British weekly):

Columnist Colin Goodwin answers a question from a reader: "What do you prefer....Ferrari or Lamborghini"?

Colin answers: "...Lamborghini, for numerous reasons. First, the name is cooler. Second, the Miura gave us the supercar and the Countach gave us hope through the '73 fuel crisis. Ferrucio Lamborghini was cool; Enzo Ferrari was an arrogant bully. Lamborghini tries to make money solely from selling cars, while Ferrari also sells baseball caps. Lamborghini's legendary test driver Valentino Balboni is cooler than Ferrari's Dario Benuzzi and crazier. Lamborghini makes its customers more welcome at its factory than Ferrari does. Finally, I have found over the years that you meet more down-to-earth Lambo owners than you do Ferrari ones. Racing heritage? The lack of it doesn't bother me much. You don't think about it when you've got a Diablo SV wound up fully on a deserted Autostrada at 195 mph".

    ...don't shoot the messenger...! :)

I'd guess it's supposed to be provocative, but a lot of this is irrelevant. How could racing heritage not be more important to a sports car maker than Lamborghini's factory tour policy?

Is Valentino Balboni more important to the Lambo brand than Michael Schumacher has been to Ferrari? How many people know could identify each man?

What cars did Miles Davis, Steve McQueen and more recently Nic Cage drive?

Lambo owners are down to earth? Some are, especially now in the Audi-ized Lambo era, but the car made its image with drug dealers, playboys and pimps.

I admit Ferrari is in something of a design lull, with the F355/550/575 era now looking like it was the most recent peak, and I like the Gallardo. But that's about the cars, not about stuff like "the name is cooler", and if you look over the decades Ferrari has dozens of legendary cars to put up against Lambo's Miura.

Needless to say I think Goodwin needs to drive more cars and spend less time shopping, reading and taking tours.

I wish my engine design came from a tractor like Lambo's, instead of from race cars like Ferraris.
    LOL
