The thing i remember about the mighty 037, was that it was a 2WD, and that GERMans made fun of it, as it was considered *no chance* against the might of the new big-budget Quattro AWD AUDI's.

[Bit like sister companies VW's *TOERAG* in the Daker, where its unlimited budget race-plan, failed against Pajero, again,..... FIRST law of motorsports, "to finish first, you must first finish"]

Back to the 037, AUDI forgot about the genius/guru team boss C.Fiorio, who exploited the 037's strengths, esp. in the dry stages, and pulled off a remarkable W.Championship, winning it in 1983.The last for a 2WD.

In the 15 years since Lancia pulled out of rallying, they still hold the record of most wins with 74.I hope that this great brand [who is 100YO] returns some time soon back to rallying.

The 037 could out-accelerate, out-corner and out-brake a Quattro, it just couldn't match the grip on loose surfaces. The 4WD Delta's were needed to stay competitive.

Sadly, FIAT has positioned Lancia as a luxury brand, a sort of Italian BMW, so I don't think they'll go back to WRC.

Gerry D and I are bringing an EVO 1 037 to Aus (if we ever get through the Italian customs nightmare) and will be running in the ARC Classic series plus some tarmac stuff such as Speed on Tweed.

Great to see a 037 in Oz, wow you own 2 of my fav. Italian cars, a Daytona and a 037.Dont own a MV Agusta and try for 3?

The Italian guy i recently sold my A/R 164 to, owns a whole bunch of Lancia, inc, wait for it 2 x Thema's 8.32 with the Ferrari donk in them, he also has a Integrale, he cannot register them, he just loves the brand and Italian cars, as we do...I need to make a excuse to visit his house/garage.

I deal with a great hands-on customs agent here in Oz, he does heaps of Japper imports, and a really nice guy, if u need his contacts, email.As for Italian customs, well its Italy
