I'll be studying abroad this summer in Munich and when my classes are over at the first weekend of July I plan on taking a weekend trip to the Nürburgring. Without having a car, however, I'm looking for the best and most affordable way to get from Munich to the town of Nürburg. Would it be easier to take a Train or a Bus? The website for Die Bahn lists 3 different stations for Nürburg. Are any of them better or worse to arrive into?

I haven't yet figured out where I'd like to stay for the weekend in Nürburg. So any advice on good hotels or rooms would also be wonderful!

    Thanks!

    Hi Jordan
Can't really help you with your question, but there are enough german members here who will sooner or later. Just wanted to say, if you're going to be in Germany you have to PM Wolfgang. ....it's german law :D

I am not german, but i only live 120 km from the Ring. I think that you can take a train to the city of Koblenz and there you can take a bus to Nürburg, but i am not sure. I never saw a train Station over there. And when you want to see nice cars, Saturdays and Sundays are best, but without a car you have to walk around the Nordschleife to see cars in action, and it's +/- 22 km!! F1 race is on 22nd of July, then the Nordschleife is always closed for 3 days, they use it as a camping ground during F1 race.

Nürburg it's only a very, very small village, where you can find rooms for only 30-40 Euro per night. But the best is, when you have a look at their official website:
    http://www.nuerburgring.de/home/index.html?L=1
Even Sabine Schmitz has her own hotel there:

She's hot and she can drive!! :p I adore that girl!

If i were you, i would go for Sabine's hotel :D Ask her for a taxi to the 'ring' ;)

Anyway, the Nordschleife is really a must visit place in my eyes! Never driven it myself, was everytime way too busy to my liking! Never forget, it's a pretty dangerous track, which you only get to know after like 100 laps orso!

Enjoy your stay in Europe :)

Already thought about a ride in the Ring Taxi, but when I e-mailed they said they are sold out through May!! Too bad! That said, Im hoping to catch a ride around the track somehow. I'd be a little bit nervous jumping in a car with a stranger knowing how dangerous the track is and not knowing how skilled the driver is. I have read that some hotels offer tours of the track in some sort of van or car. That way I can at least say Ive been on the track...

Not sure about renting a car to drive for myself since I am on a limited budget. I'm a starving college student :) If I manage to save up enough, however, maybe then it will become an option!

I would love to hook up with any Fchatters while I am in Germany! I will probably post another message here when I arrive and after I settle in. Will be in Munich the entire month of June.

The Ring-Taxi is always booked out. There are always people on german ebay who offer rides on the Nordschleife in their Porsche or so.
You can PM me, when you are there, i am sometimes there on Weekends with my Subaru Impreza. It's not a Ferrari, but i can take you for a ride, when you are interested.

    Hi Jordan,

Nice to hear you'll spend some time studying in Munich. I'm sure you'll love the city, especially since you'll be here during the summer months!

The Nürburgring is quite far away from Munich though, maybe like 500-600 km and you will be spending a lot of time travelling there and back (The Nürburgring is near Koblenz, not near Nürnberg). Especially when taking the train and then continuing by bus, it takes many, many hours to get there. Then being there without a car is also very difficult, as the Ring is just so huge. Without a big event going on, I think you may not find it worth the long trip once you've finally arrived there...

Anyway, maybe during your stay there might be some Ferrari event going on somewhere in the Munich area or so. Or maybe you'd like to have a look at the local Ferrari dealer? Just let me know and I'd be happy to take you there with my car, a VW Golf too, though just a TDI, not a GTI like yours :)
Just let me know if I can assist you with something concerning your stay in Munich. My wife works in the Tourist Office, so we should be able to supply you with broschures, addresses and such.

You can also contact me by email: [email protected]

BTW, for seeing nice cars in Munich, make sure to regularly check the Maximilianstrasse, as this is Munich's best address for car-spotting. You'll see several Ferraris here for sure during your stay!

Again, if there's anything concerning your Munich-stay where I can assist you with, just let me know!

    Best regards

    Lars

PS: At www.exoticsonroad.com, you can find a lot of pics of Ferraris and such on the streets of Munich. Use the "Search" button to get all the Munich pics. Typing "München" instead of "Munich" will get you different pics, btw.
    Have fun!

I've visited the ring and the drive on the North Ring (Nordschleife) is worth every cent that you have to pay for the ticket.

A friend of mine reccomended this hotel: http://www.blaueecke.de/start/?la=uk the website is in english and, according to him, the hotel was wonderful and the staff was very well informed about the ring and racing.

When I go with some friends to the Ring, we always stay at CenterParcs Heilbachsee.
It is 30 minutes from the ring by car
