Steve wasnt all show. He was actually a very cool guy. No attitude at all. His daughter used to race mini bikes at Indian Dunes in the 70's. Steve and Ali Magraw were there every friday night. Just regular folks.

I remember when my grandpa showed me Bullitt for the first time...WOW. ow gritty the entire movie was and then to top it off with the chase sequence...good God.

Too bad the baddies in the Charger blew up...I liked that thing more than the Stang.

Yes. Read an interview with Coburn a few years ago. He had several but I think he was speaking of his California Spyder. He and Steve used to race in the hills and sometimes out to Palm Springs.

I think one of them lived on Mulholland.

Coburn was another life long car guy.

If any of you were fans of Leave It To Beaver, Wally and the Beav were playing baseball on the back lot near Steves XKSS when he was shooting Wanted Dead or Alive and broke the windshield. They were scared to tell him but said when they did he was very cool about it. Just asked them to be more careful.

Steve's son Chad crashed a Daytona prototype car in practice for last years 24 hrs. of Daytona. Broke his leg, couple vertabreas, ribs. He was on last weekends Speed TV coverage of the 2007 race to thank all who helped him recover. Now wants to be a race team owner. Looked like his Dad. Chip off the old block.

Uhh, Steve has been dead a long time. Bruce Brown did a really good tribute to him as a lead=in to the second release of "On Any Sunday". Had a lot of good quotes, action videos and stories about this "cool" guy......If you can find a copy of the rerelease you need to get it. It spends the first 10 minutes going into detail about Steve and his relationship.

Bruce said that Steve contacted him when he was filming LeMans and told him that he had really enjoyed filming On Any Sunday much more. A lot less politics to be played. He actually was a very good M/X rider back in the day. I was only on the track with him one time and did not know it until after the race. I don't remember how we finished. Too many years ago.......

    Christian.....

You have to read "A French Kiss With Death" which is probably the best book about Steve McQueen ever made. You can order it from Amazon.com.......$75 USD more or less........

The first half is about his life.....the second half is about the making of LeMans.....I just finished reading it at the suggestion of Napolis. The pictures are incredible, many of them archival and never before published.

If you are a McQueen fan as I am, and a racing fan.....this is "the" book. I actually saw the 1970 LeMans race as an 11 year old kid while living in Europe......didn't know who McQueen was at the time.......the book brought back memories as that was the race he filmed for the movie.

www.corbis.com manages his image and rights.....there are some pics at that site as well.
