Real 308 with Fiero engine! What kind of chopshop would do this? Is it a fake VIN number? Is this a stolen car? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250078363203&fromMakeTrack=true
This is so sad....would someone with the proper V8 kicking around PLEASE buy this thing and give it's heart back?
For my next trick, I'll get a copy of the film "Casablanca", cut out all the scenes with Humphrey Bogart, and get Adam Sandler to shoot replacements.
In the immortal words of Bugs Bunny, "What a Maroon!!!!" LOL!!!! It's about time that something like this happened. Now absolutely nothing is a surprise.
And such a clean wiring installation also.LOL! I mean really, of all the motors he HAD to pick, he picks one of the worst. It just adds salt to the wound. Darrell.
The seller is actually an Fchat member, seems he finally gave up on it. I bet a 350 Chevy in there would make for an interesting ride, given that it already has the Fiero subframe and V8s are fitted to those all the time.
I know a somewhat tired Daytona; I bet I could drop a nice Chevy LT-1 in there and then it would be a great driver. I'm sure glad I saw this post - I'm truly inspired. Thanks, George
By my count this now make 3 cars with this conversion. There was a yellow one (thread with pics) discussed months back here on F-chat, & I recall another red one near the central eastern seaboard...DC, VA, Etc about 3 years back. Always brings some interesting comments from the board. This may be the car I recall from 3 years ago...though it had different wheels then. That car was originally converted in FLA by some shop down there according to the owner at that time.
http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95482&highlight=worse+kit+car post #41 shows some pics of a Norwood converted 308 salt flat racer with w/ a 454 and GTO body...car was also in Forza at one point too IIRC. Interesting how hot rods with Ferrari engines are cool, but ferrari's with other engines are crap. This e-bay car is by no means a masterpiece of craftsmanship, but someone at some point had a reason to do it.
Wowee wow wow... This is brutal. Funny thing is that the owners manual folder in the door pocket is probably worth more than the motor.
To me the biggest issue isn't the motor swap, but the fact that the rear suspension isn't Ferrari anymore. See this thread for pictures of the rear setup. It's a combination of Fiero lower parts and a homemade upper strut mount. It may be fine, but it won't handle like a regular 308 anymore. Economically, there's just no feasible way to bring this car back to stock. Secondly, the seller paid almost 20K for it last time though ebay, and has more in it after that. When you get to $25-30K, you might as well buy a complete 308. For 10-15K, I could be interested just to put that 450 HP Chevy in it edit: You know, it really looks pretty clean (with the engine cover closed)
Somehow reading this reminded me of the article in Motor Trend Classic a few months ago about the 1970 (+/-) Firebird that had a Ferrari V12 installed. Yes, I realize its a bit of role reversal, but GM/Ferrari interchangeability nonetheless. Also, isnt it true that some Ferraris back in the late 60s or early 70s used GM automatic transmissions?? Just curious, Patrick
No kidding - that 20K+ would have been a gift from heaven... before the oil leaks build up enough on the exhaust manifold to burn it to the ground... Maybe the bidder was a Nascar-Corvette wanabee that just had to have a good old pushrod motor?
