WOW, Im happy to hear every one is ok.
that is also the name of a well known hitman from the jersey/philly area. He got his name because he would freeze the dead bodies then dump them so the medical examiners couldn't put an accurate time of death...
Glad you guys stopped safely. Now, how does the fix get handled for this? I'm sure you'll push for warranty but aren't air bag replacements big bucks if they try to stick you with it? Let us know how it goes. While unfortunate, I'd still rather go with air bags then not.
Hey guys, Just wanted to say thanks to every one here for their concerns for Steve and I, and also to everyone on the run for their help. Kudos to you, Steve, for safely pulling the car over and coming to a stop all while not being able to see a thing! I will be interested to find out what, if anything, Ferrari has to say about this because the sensors should not be so trigger-happy. On another note, either the gasses from the airbag are still on my clothes, or.......I smell an Fchat award, Steve!
Glad your all right Steve, nice to meet you today, and your car looked excellent in early morning light and rain! I will get you some pics.
Yeah, when we pulled over and I found out Steve had almost crashed, I didn't know what to expect. But, thanks to Steve's excellent driving skills, no one was harmed!Kevin and I hopped out the DTM, and Spyder couldn't figure out how to get out of the Enzo...haha
I just started uploading my pics to my site. Should take a few hours seeing as there are 500 from the day. Sorry, but I am too tired to weed trough them more than tossing out the really crappy ones. http://www.frank4cars.fotki.com/supercar_sunday/supercar-sunday-1-28-07/
I am sooo glad to hear that Steve and Jason are ok. this is really shocking because, at this point there seems not to be an explination as to what happened, and it seems that it could have happened just as easily going 100+ on a freeway! Auto Gallery service, or ehrer ever the car ends up needs to get us some answers! p.s. did Jason detail the car after the incident?
Steve, I have on board video of todays run to Taverna Tony's, but it doesn't show much except for an absence of rocks in the road and maybe a puff of smoke. You were 6 cars ahead of me. I'll edit a short clip of the scene and get it to you. Glad you guys came out of it relatively (other than Jason's welts and bruises) unharmed.
This is exactly what we were talking about on the way back from lunch. This could have just as easily happened in the middle lane of six on the 405. Actually, Yes! After we got going again, there was some kind of dust from the airbag on the inside windshield. Steve tried to wipe it away with his hand and it just smeared. So I grabbed one of his microfiber towels and cleaned the windshield while we were driving.
The airbags should never deploy "accidentally" from rock hits or parking lot curb bumps - for them to deploy is inexcusable. I believe most cars use crush sensors in multiple locations as part of the airbag deployment system. Shock or vibration shouldn't be enough to do it alone, and a rock hitting in the right spot also shouldn't be enough to do it alone. Even *IF* it was a rock hit (which I understand it wasnt), it should not have happened and at the very minimum, the car should be 100% fixed under warranty and IMO some additional consideration should be heading the way of the owner and passenger. An airbag going off is a very scary and potentially deadly occurence. I've taken a hit from one and it's like taking a hard punch on the face. When they go off during normal driving it could lead to loss of control and a serious crash. IMO Ferrari may (and damn well should) want to take a very close look at this car to see what happened. Lawsuits are filed for less!
