Valerio here: I was driving behind Steve when I saw a rock hit the undercarriage, then brake in two chinks, a smaller went to my left and the larger piece I missed with a lot of luck and a little steering. Steve kept his car straight and slowed down to the right. Considering the bag's puff of putrid smoke and the blinding slap in the face, Steve... you da man! Damn rock... Glad everyone's okay. Ciao
Glad you two are ok. Sorry to hear this happen. Ferrari definitely needs to examine the cause of this, this is unacceptable on a high performance vehicle, heck, for ANY vehicle for that matter. Again, glad you guys are OK!
I agree on the airbag. I drove my C36 Benz off the freeway and when I hit a bed of rocks after few other things... the passenger airbag deployed but mine (driver's side) didn't... the reason was that I took most of the impact with the right front of the car and not the driver's side... I was very surprised that it deployed on Steve's car for so little.... that's crazy.
Perhaps the mods could change the name of this thread to: ????? sets off F430 airbags, driver and passenger survive !!!!!
Airbag control units have a memory that Ferrari will be able to read. It will tell which sensor caused the deployment, what direction the force came from vehicle/engine speed, steering angle etc, etc, every thing they will need to know. Also FYI, i have seen this sort of thing many times, and usually the owner gets a new car out of it because most people dont feel like riding in a car that has had unexplained srs deployment. Lemon law states an unreasonable amount of repair attempts, and most people agree, 1 airbag malfunction is unreasonable!!!
I think the owner of this vehicle deserves more than that! Good thing he was able to pull the car over like he did.
Still Im happy you and Jason walked a way from this and were able to drive the car back home. but in all fairness "Kitty" says it all. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Radar, Glad to hear you guys are ok. That was very skillful driving under the circumstances. Hopefully the Spider will be back to its gorgeous self soon and you can get to the bottom of this. My best wishes on a speedy recovery.
Have you guys spoken to your dealer of Ferrari and what do they have to say about it? Glad your ok, could have been worse.
I totally agree, but what someone deserves and what the law provides for are very often different. Main think is every one is ok, its just a car, and can be repaired or replaced.
I'm sure there'll be lots of details to come.......and Bagman will keep up posted. Good thing you've still got Mr.355 as a back-up!
