What are you guys bringing home?:) Me, I'm waiting to see what the prices will be after the game, since stores will be making room for '07 models.

or wait for the open box models, after everyone who bought a new 50" plasma screen w/the works returns it, then you can get it for half off. :)

I've been researching plasmas since before Christmas. Essentially, you can get into a new HD 42" for 1K or less.

I've been thinking about it but right now I'd just rather save my money for the small business. My two TV's are soo old I'm surprised they even still work.

    Sony 37" from 1988
    Sony 27" from 1996

It's a SONY, what else would you expect? My parents bought a 19" set in 1976 and it still works.:)

    (remember when a 19" TV was a prestige item?:D)

We have this Sony Projector for our theatre room. That's what were going to use for the Superbowl party!

    GO BEARS!

Sony is very very good. My brother and I went halves in a 68cm Sony Super Trinitron back in Jan 1996. We paid AU$1896 and have NEVER had a problem with it. Other friends have bought other brands, Panasonic, Teac, LG and all have had problems with theirs. :) My Sony still looks brand new and still very trendy for an old school TV. Will get another 11 years+ out of it I reckon. :)

What a deal! My 32" LCD HD from Circuit City in November was the least expensive but still was $850. Their outlet recently ran out of 42" Polaroid plasmas for $899!:(

Youre lucky. Sony Trinitrons (I had one) are notorious for bad tuners. Great set though. I had a big one years ago. Friend of mine just got a 42" Bravia LCD and its amazing.

You can still do that? As far as I know unless people can prove there is something wrong with the TV big box stores wont take them back. My neighbor has had problems returning his 42 inch LG LCD, it has a huge crack in the screen from deliviery. The store wont take it back. Its hard to return big ticket items.

I'm sorry, but please remove all references to the term 'Super Bowl' from this forum. I am from the NFL Police, and it is a trademarked and copyrighted term.(sic)

Seriously though; these guys won't let anyone use the term 'Super Bowl' in ads unless you pay a royalty fee........ it's hilarious to hear ads on the radio and tv where folks are saying 'come in now and get your new big screen TV in time for the 'big game'.......... and bars and restaurants telling folks to come in for cheap beer and appetizers during the 'big game'...

    I think it's silly.....

Similarly, the word 'Olympics' is trademarked and owned by the IOC.

I've got a mitsubishi from the mid eighties that still works and has a great picture. My newer JVC D-Series doesn't look as good.

Since they don't make tubes anymore I think the next will be a sony.

The day after the Bears beat the Saints I went out and got a 42" Panasonic Plasma HiDef! Love it! Looking forward to the game and the Super Bowl party!

Was tempted to get a new Pioneer Elite PRO-FHD1 50" plasma for our new house, but after doing some reading, now is a bad time to buy a plasma. My current 50" plasma will have to do for a few more months.

Right now only the 50" Elite and some 60-65" plasmas do 1920x1080 resolution and 1080p... but coming this summer that will change.

Pioneer is bringing out a new line of plasma's called 8G plasmas that will reproduce black 80% better than even the best LCD. Also models from 42" to 60" will be 1920x1080 and do 1080p. Rumor is that they are 100,000:1 contrast ratio. 10x better than current plasmas.

    So I'm waiting. :)

Sounds like consumers are due for a major price drop! Such is the world of technology. Dealing in fine time-pieces, I bet that's not an operational concern. :)
Regarding reproducing black, do plasmas not already have better black than LCD? Anyway, at what point, I wonder, will the human eye stop being able to perceive the continuing improvements?
    I, too, will wait.

I meant to add "the best LCDS and Plasmas" :)

My current 50" plasma has dropped 50% in price in the year I've owned it. I have a good friend at a home theater store now, so I get pretty good prices versus retail. He got me a great price on the top of the line Pioneer Elite receiver and after bringing him some business, he's going to order the rest of the Klipsch speakers I need (RF-83s, RC-64) for me at cost :)

The market sure isn't as volatile when it comes to dealing with watches. The technology boom already hit in the 80s with the quartz watch, but now mechanical watches are back in favor, and besides small technological improvements, they still pretty much work the same way they have for well over 100 years.

I don't know too much about all the different TV's b/c it isn't something that really matters to me all that much but I was watching a show about home audio/video and Bang and olufsen was showing their TV and how it reproduced black. They talked about how much the black matters to the picture. It never occurred to me how important the color black would be to a color television.

It was a while ago but I think it was in the 8-10k range.

They make some neat stuff. I really like the cordless phones.

A friend of mine bought a 50" Hitachi 50HDA39 Plasma HDTV yesterday for $1499.00, prices sure have dropped on those things. I'm very tempted to get one as well but I'll save my tax refund to the savings account.
