    HI Everyone,
OK, I am narrowing the poll to two locations. Between VA and PA we have more people than we have voting for the Dragon. The word I'm getting from the yankees is that the Dragon is too far south. I'm going to see what happens when the vote is restricted to two locations.

    1. Berry Hill/VIR in VA. The most centrally located spot between the north and south.

    2. Tail of the Dragon, the more popular spot in the last poll.

Again, please vote only if you plan to attend. I have made multiple votes valid on this poll. If you will attend no matter which one we choose, you can choose both.

If the Dragon loses so does my chance of bringing my car. BUT I am still planning on attending and following in a rented Chevy econobox. The only two obstacles would be a ridiculously expensive plane ticket or a date after Sept 1st. I really want to meet you guys.

    Hey Dr. Tommy,
Please don't get mad at me, I know you are gung ho for the dragon. I would really love to drive it too. I'm just trying to make it as accessible as possible for everyone. There is a large crowd of fchatters up here in NE but there is little chance they are going to huff it all the way to the dragon. VA is still a long haul (12 hours) but a lot more doable than 17 hours.

Let's see where the cards fall. VA is almost exactly halfway, fair for both northerners and southerners! (Yankees and confederates?? ;))

Can someone clue me in more to Berry Hill? I know VIR, but, unless I track her there, not much else to do as far as I know. I assume I just never found the right spots.

The NC FCA throws a Ferrari gathering at the Berry Hill Plantation Resort and we can piggyback our event on there. It gives us a place to meet and park the cars, a bunch of other Fcars to see, and we don't have to do all the legwork to set it up ourselves. We just pay the fee and join that event. They have a track event set up, but we do not have to join that. I'm not sure what the date for next year is, but I would assume it is around the same time (late April, early May). Anyone know?

    Go here:
    http://www.fca-nc.com/past_events.htm

    And click Berry Hill

FCA@VIR and Berry Hill Plantation Resort 28-30 April 2006
The Ferrari Club of America North Carolina Chapter’s feature event of the year, was a hit with over 50 registrants and more than 65 cars on VIR’s north course all day Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30.

If that date doesn't work work us, I suppose we could set up our own event around the same venue, or maybe something cheaper. Let's work on the place, then the date.

the vir location is more equitable though not as intriguing. hooking up with other car types kind of defeats the purpose. perhaps a car hauler so the really extreme travelers have an option. eight cars on a truck seems doable. i drive back to md frequently. it's a sixteen hour run. i usually stop after six or eight hours. adding two or three hours driving per stint when you are going to stop anyway isn't really too bad.

Not sure I care to piggy back to another event. However, if more of the Yankee crowd can make to VIR than to the Dragon, I'll vote for that. I guess my question becomes, can the guys who voted for NY and PA come down to VA instead? If not, then I vote the Dragon. What about you Birdman? I never did get to see your 308. The wife going to bring down the Mondial with the kids?

That's the purpose of this second poll, to narrow it down a bit. The last poll showed that of the five locations, the single most popular was the Dragon, but that the PA and VA were both second most popular. I took a poll of the people up here in the New England Fchat crowd that I hang out with, and almost nobody was willing to drive to the Dragon. About half were willing to drive to VA. If the event is held at the Dragon, almost nobody will come from New England. So it became ovbious that the event had to be pretty close to halfway between Maine and Florida. If you hold it at the Dragon or in WV, you won't get any northerners, and if you hold it in NY, you won't get anyone from down south.

This current poll, so far, is backing up my hypothesis on this, which is that we really need to put it about smack dab in the middle.

What kinds of roads are around VIR/Berry Hill? I don't much care for tracking my car even though I'm sure it would be a hoot at VIR. I want to keep it casual which is the whole reason why I mentioned the Tail of the Dragon and the WV/Barvarian Inn run in the first place. I hope that piggy backing onto someone elses event yields enough time to actually have a 3x8 gathering. I suspect that just like the FCA nationals though that too much will be going on for it to actually materialize.

Well, I will vote for VIR or places east. I'd rather drink a beer with the FChat crowd than drive a good road (this once!). Hmm, maybe we should do a southeast thing... I still vote for a non piggy back event myself though.

I voted for VIR, even though its a little further drive, it is by far the best idea. Sorry Tommy, I know you are jonesing for the Dragon. I would definately do a VIR 308 thing. Its also far enough north to allow some of our northern 308 guys to attend!

If you (and others) are driving up we can meet somewhere and convoy north.

    Sounds like a fun trip!

    Fellas,

Just one thing. If you don't want the gathering to be track-centric, it doesn't have to be! There are plenty of good roads around there, the Spa is nice and the bar is open!

Don't feel like it has to be a "tag-along" to the existing event, make it an augmentation of the existing event. I'm sure Bob, Kevin and Daniel could help make this happen. I can help with some local details, including less expensive places to stay (although Berry Hill is not bad.)

Why not have everyone come down for our annual Bermuda Run Luncheon and Rally? That would be the marquis event on Saturday, but I would be honored to host a welcome reception on Thursday or Friday evening anywhere in the state.

We could hit a baseball game on Thursday or Friday night, and really have some fun. Maybe have a catered BBQ (southern style!) somewhere?

Y'all know my number or PM me if you're interested. Winston Salem is dead-center in the state, so if there's anything I can do to assist, please advise.

Bermuda Run is more social, more "tooling around" and well worth traveling for if the group decides against "piggy backing" onto a track-event.

Guys, don't muck up the poll! We are essentially voting on VA versus the Dragon. You had your chance to introduce another idea in the previous threads! Stick with the program! Daniel, I very much appreciate your offer, but we have moved beyond the point of throwing out new ideas and we're working on voting on the ones we have.

We are deciding if we should do something in the VIR area, or at the Dragon. Once we vote on that, we can decide the specifics, such as whether we add on to another event, or create our own, track or no track, etc. One thing at a time!

    Thanks

I would love to attend an event, and if someone comes up with additional gatherings, I will try to make to make that one too. I agree a parking lot full of Ferrari's and a resturaunt full guys telling stories.

For the moment, my first vote
    1. Berry Hill/VIR in VA. The most centrally located spot between the north and south.

    Vote early & vote often,

The Dragon is farther for me to drive, but much more preferrable to VIR. Not to offend anyone, but VIR is in the middle of no-where. Not much to do there except be at the track. Overall I don't think that location has very good amenities.

I actually bought my car there from a guy attending one of their events a few years ago so I'm speaking from my own experience. Driving from PA, once I got passed Richmond it was not much of a drive. One hundred and ten miles of nothing (literally) until you get into Berry Hill.
