I'm queued up for some of the $89 tires. Can you tell me how old the tires you got for your wife's car were? What were the date codes / year of manufacture?

    Thanks,

    Mike,

I actually need to back up here a little bit. I did get the $89 price but it was a match from America's Tires. I did not get them through TR. Mine are made in Australia and I would have the manu date except the sticker is missing on the tires. I bought 4, but only needed 2. When I dropped off the car, the idiots replaced all 4. When my wife went to pick up the car she noticed this and they had to remount the 2 old (good) tires. I think the mounting of the tires removed the stickers. Also, as they finally finished up the car, they told my wife she could back it out of the bay and the car was still on jacks. I tell you...they are idiots.

Great info - thanks. The Tire Rack "W" tire (Austraulia) is almost for sure the same that would be ordered from a local place.

I'll know in a few days about age, manufacture, etc.

This Tire Source place here in Boulder has a good reputation, though I've never tried them. I'll watch 'em closely and check for any jack stands before I drop it in reverse.!

For USA consumption, tires are marked with a date code on the sidewall. It is usually four digits. First two are the week (01 to 52) and then the year (07 for this year). Check, it is very possible they use the same date coding in AU.

Just my .02. I have them om my 530i Sport and they are far superior to the Bridgestone S02 Pole Positions I took off. Superb grip in wet and dry, and no noise. The S02's sounded like 4X4 mudder tires with just 12K miles. Very pleased with them.

So you want me to pull one off the shelf again, huh?

Are you saying it is molded into the tire? I always thought it was that little sticker with the bar code on it.

It is molded in the tire. The sticker may also have a date code, I don't know.

My tires just came in (Goodyear F1 GS-D3), here are the manufacture date codes:

    Fronts:
    13th week (March/April) of 2005

    Rears:
    20th/24th week (May) of 2006

Rears are fine. I'm worried about the age of the fronts (almost 2 years old). No money spent yet, all I have to do is say "no".

At 3,000 miles a year I'd say these would wear-out mileage-wise in 5 years or so, but by then the fronts would be 7 years old (based on manufacture date).

    What would you do?

Honestly, I wouldn't even worry about it. I highly doubt that you will have any problems nor even notice any difference with the age. It's such a great price that if you wanted to swap them after 5 years (still with good tread) you'd still be ahead.

Unless you are going to track the car, I'd think you are fine. I'm sure there are a lot of others driving on older tires, but ultimately it's up to you.

Tough decision....but word of warning....as sticky as these tires are, they last a long time. Expect 25k min. if your alignment is good. I get over 30k on my BMW.
