I didn't place this in the Biz. section because I was hoping for broader responses.

I was reading an Inc. Magazine article and it mentioned countries requirements for severnance, etc..... and I was stunned.

I'd like to learn more about what diff. countries require.

    For example,

Country ............Weeks of wages req. for sev.

    USA..................0
    Mexico..............75
    UK....................32
    Canada.............28
    Brazil................165!!

I'm in the US, so I don't understand how this works. Anyone from other countries want to explain?

Is that table the amount of weeks you must work to receive severance or the amount of weeks of severance pay you get when you are axed?

As I understand it, it is the amount of weeks of severance pay you get when axed.

That is why I'm asking for clarification.

No kidding! That's insane. What business could support that? How does a company survive a downturn?

I guess you could set up two companies?

Company 1: The business that actually cash flows and has real assets.
Company 2: A paper company with zero assets that all your employees technically work for. Contract labor to company 1 and if you need to lay off, just lay to waste comany 2...rinse and repeat.

I can't believe those figures are accurate, there's got to be more to it.
