Hello, This late spring I will be relocating to Dallas TX. My finance's family is from there and by then I will be saying my wife..... We're I live now, northern NJ, the roads to drive my 328 are absolutely spectacular!! Their smooooooth, curvy, rise and dip. A real thrill to drive. So when we when move back home to TX, yes I know flat. Where do you drivers go to have a thrilling drive, ya know really apprecaite the car..... Any recommendatinos for clubs, etc, etc,,,,, It may be a bit shallow but I'm reallllllyyyyy gone miss those roads....... Whaty can I say except I'm all about roads, I also ride a Duc and HD. Thanks, John.
Sorry to say, but all the roads in Texas are flat. No curves here. You'll have to watch out for the livestock in the road also. Plus you'll need to get fitted for your cowboy hat and boots within a month. It's the law! Welcome to Texas!
You've found the TX section, you're halfway there. The local F-Chat group gets together pretty often, and we do drives 3 or 4 times a year. They aren't up to your standards, but we've managed to find some pretty entertaining ones. Our next formal drive is in the April/May timeframe, then another planned in October.
Looking for curvy roads I'd guess you'd have to head down south to the Hill Country, or go north into Oklahoma/Arkansas to the Ouachita and Ozark Mountains.
Texas Motorsport Ranch... on of the sponsors... and you do not have to worry about hitting a longhorn crossing the road to get away from a chicken... Highway 377 runs southwest of Fort Worth through Granbury on way to Hill Country. Welcome to Texas, we need more 328s here. Off topic but I have heard rumors of a new indoor track being built in the DFW metroplex,
www.fcadfw.com We still manage to have a great time on the roads here. More straight line thrills than switchbacks. Hill country has some great roads. Only 6 hours away in Ozarks are some of the Top 10 driving roads in the country according to R&T.
Figure I get my Texas lingo down by startin' with a......Hi Y'all !! Thanks for the responses, please keep 'em coming......Looking very fwd to catchin up with you guys in person. Thanks for the warm welcome too. I'll keep ya posted with my progress to Dallas, Tx.....
I see that you found HillCountryDrives.com. We would love to have you on one of our drives sometime. It's a great group of friends and we always have great drives planned out.
Welcome. Is this curvy enough for you? Forget the back roads and get your Ferrari on the track where it belongs. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Are you guys insane??? You folks have obviously never done a Hill Country Drives event then...we ALWAYS have curvy roads with elevation changes and great roads... Grayson and Mike can chime in on this one...you guys need to get out more and hand out with the HCD...we do AT LEAST one drive a month...not 3-4 times a year. Central Texas is our playland...
Yes, well if thats the case to drive 3 hours to get to them, at least there here in Tx. I would be willing to drive the distance Jimpo1 to check it out. As far as a tracking my 328, not a bad idea but I'd rather be dragging my knee around a turn... We'll see.... Lets see some pics of hill country. I have already pursued the site of a member here of "drives to hill country", the pics were mostly the cars and not so much the scenery or roads....
Sorry, I don't have any real good photos from drives. Here are a few that I do have but they don't do the Hill Country any real justice IMO. Most of these photos are from our FCA drives. Welcome to Texas! There are some good curvy roads in the hill country. You just need to watch out for deer, rabbits, armadillo's, etc. People run in to them all the time. Enjoy Texas, find some good roads.
Repost, but here are two videos from Ozarks 6 hours away. >>> "VERY CROOKED AND STEEP NEXT 3 MILES" Part 1 - 15.8 Mb. http://www.ferrarichat.com/videos/20060915_Crescent_328_p1_A.mpg >>> "VERY CROOKED AND STEEP NEXT 3 MILES" Part 2 - 24.7 Mb. http://www.ferrarichat.com/videos/20060915_Crescent_328_p2_A.mpg
I've done several rallies through hill country and they are spectacular, but they're no Ozarks. For one, hills aren't mountains.
That's true... The area out near Bandera is very different than the hills around Austin. They are almost like mountains... they actually call them mountains. The roads in those videos didn't look like anything special to me. Definitely not worth a 6 hour trip IMO.
Where did Road & Track rate your roads on the Top 10 list? Geez, grow up, give respect to all roads, don't be such a snob. Texas roads are the last thing to be a snob about. It's all about having fun, I can do that here a mile from my house in Southlake, I've made unexpecting friends and family see God for brief flashes many times.
