A mate on this list tells a great story of a Jag owner in his recently re-restored XJ6 that bursts into flames at a set of lights. A fellow motorist naively pulls over and removes an extinguisher and starts heading for the soon to be inferno. The owner spectating from the grass verge calls out "if you go near my car i'll thump you!" Car burns to ground..

it would have held him out till it braked at 200 metres and pp sailed on past and braked at 100 metres.Thats a quick car only geared for about 130 mph.
no...no it didn't. it was as fast as my boxer in a straight line, but the brakes and handling were crap....so i got past easily anyway.
hey...i just realised....if i buy a bentley turbo R pre '87 i'll be able to come on the carby runs!! it's worth it just for that.
if i told you the brakes that are in THAT car you would retrated in a hurray.It did .27s at sandown so the brakes can't be all that bad.
