I find it disturbing that people won't drive their cars if there is "salt" on the road. If I owned an exotic, I'd drive it every damn day. These cars are MEANT to be driven, not to be sheltered from the elements. I want to see rockchips, dirt, salt, mud all over these exotics, thats what gives the car character!

Amen Joe... I have no problem with showing off a few battle scars of rock chips and so on, on my cars, because of course since I drive my damn cars it shows. Even if its not me driving it daily, I still get my work in double during the proper season ;)

Thing is, who in the hell wants their cars/exotics to look like that?? It doesn't make anyone extra cool in my eyes, if I have a daily to drive during the bad weather I will use it, as I do now. No point in bringing out a 600+hp and tq GT2 in the snow, ice, rain, mud you name it, its not satisfying to drive a car like these in the conditions mentioned so there is no point.

Anyway, I sha'll prob bring it out tomorrow, some salt dust doesn't keep me from driving ;)

    WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA>>>>EASY BIG GUY!!!!!!!!!

As I sit here , I must agree with Joe, that the elements do screw up a cars finish and oddly enough......Rock Chips and Road Kill dont provide character to any of my cars........

Now back to you Joey.......I own both Audi's and Chevy's. I dont want them messed up either. So , how about we compare it to Hyundai's and Yugo's!!?

I've seen plenty of exotics used daily and the owners treat them right. Got salt on the car? Wash it when you are done using it. Salt on the car after 2-3 hours wont do much, if any damage to the undercarriage.

I know a guy in western NJ that owns a Ford GT, Gallardo, RS4, and 996TT. Even though he has an audi in the stable, doesnt mean he can't take the other three out. Ive seen him in the Gallardo with snow tires flying around Gladstone. If you can afford a 200k car, you can afford to keep it clean and healthy. Drive them like they are meant to be.

I think theres a difference between driving the car in adverse conditions and doing damage to the car. Driving a newer gallardo or 430 in the salty conditions probably wont do as much damage as driving a 1984 308 in the snow (sorry jawad, only car i could think of). Salt is terrible on the cars. I agree with joe, but yourk, that picture you posted is just retarded. Anyone that has an exotic that treats it in a way to make it look like that should lose their license for 60 days.

First, I never said do damage to any exotic. By putting miles on any car, you will obviously get some rock chips/dirt, whatever you may call it. I draw the connection that by driving these cars as they should be, you will have some evidence of doing so. You should realize that photo isn’t of a standard, road going Maserati; that car went into the tire wall at lime rock two years ago. Just using the photo to stress a point.

Since when does driving a high performance car/exotic mean you should drive it in ice/snow and bad weather? How does this determine if he opts not to, that he has a garage queen? Driving these cars (or at least mine) as they should be driven does not mean winter driving, but rather nicer weather on the track or wherever it can stretch its legs!

I didnt drive my turbo ONCE during last winter, meanwhile i still put 10k miles on it or a little less for the year!

seems like you are all missing the point. I'm not saying "DRIVE IT IN THE SNOW and ICE", what I'm saying is, don't baby them. 10,000 miles in a year isnt a lot buddy, especially for a 996TT, a car that is so well-built and capable of all conditions. It just saddens me to see a car never used, sitting in a garage half the year. If you can afford the car, you can afford to maintain it. Just my two cents. Take it or leave it.

    Dude...Sir...Maam......pick one.

What you did is post up a pic of a Maserati that was beaten to death. Looks like the nose was used in Midtown Manhattan traffic. Bumper parking as I call it. That car was completely disrespected and abused. As most of the people on this board....they are NOT here to abuse their cars. But , they do drive the hell out of them.(Safely of course). It has nothing to do with being able to "afford" to repair or replace that vehicle, it has to do with enjoying that vehicle. My cars(audi's and chevy's)(thanks joe) barely cost a fraction of what most people here are driving. Yet , I still want them looking brand new!!! That being said, my vette made it out to Captree this morning, with little or no sand contact.

hey buddy you talk about not driving a car.
come out with us one time on a run and i'll show you what driving is.
most people on this board are speedfreaks and drive the **** out of there cars.
one day if you will ever own an exotic, and you worked hard to get it, trust me you will baby it as well.

lol, thanks for the invite, maybe I'll take you up on that offer someday. I dont need to go drive in large groups to show off my abilities though, if thats what your trying to get at. I work hard just as much as anyone else does. I paid for my sh*tbox A4 on my own dime and I know what it takes to live a decent life while taking risks on investments. I drive my car hard and maintain it the way it should be. A car is a car, nothing more then a form of transportation.

Driving hard to me isnt about going up to bear mountain and putting 2-3 hours of spirited driving in. Driving hard to me is driving non-stop to Miami and back, pushing not only my car, but myself. I've come to realize you dont need a 300k car to enjoy yourself. They are works of art, yes, but they shouldnt be treated as if they make you who you are. They are toys just like anything else. The type of "hard driving" im into isnt about pushing my toy to the edge, but rather my own body and self. I've spent a few days on the track, i know what thats like. Its not the same though as just getting out there on the highway and getting lost, seeing things you never thought you'd see. Pushing yourself further then you thought you could go. With that, your car pays a toll. Thats my whole point. Get out there and drive. Don't baby the damn thing.

My turbo was rwd, lightened up, over 500 rwhp and rwtq, it wasnt going anywhere in the snow.

Bottom line and what i was trying to make YOU realize, is that you didnt make yourself clear, you automatically assumed that we babied our cars since we didnt want to drive in the winter time, meanwhile you really had no idea of our situations.

As i said to a million other people, the cars are not enjoyable in bad conditions and if we have a daily where we caa get around safely and comfortable, WHY risk our cars int he bad weather for no reason? My GT2 on dry land has no traction 1st, 2nd and 3rd, it would NOT BE FUN lol!

    All good though, carry on.

Once again, I'm not saying ABUSE the car. Drive it like its meant to be driven. I give Parikh credit for what he did with his brand new Evo. Seeing it covered completely in mud with a temp tag still in the window. Thats what I love to see. DRIVE THE CARS LIKE THEY ARE MEANT TO BE. That doesnt mean abuse it at every stop light and purposely cut in at curbs and corners.

Who said no traction in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd wasnt any fun :) Point taken about not being clear. This whole thread started about not driving your cars though because of salt on the roadway; come on!

I think this thread got hijacked.

I was out at Captree today. You're right nosalt out there.
We had a joint M5,M6 and AMG meet and it was fun.( arranged by MB world and M5/M6 Board)
I ran a heavily modified Rentech AMG. I have video that I may upload in a couple of days
There were about 18 or so M's and AMG's , a couple of Corvettes and I recall seeing a red Porsche 993TT ( I think
We had a blast doing runs .
yes it was cold but the turnout was acceptable.
I thought I'd see some members from here but maybe next time
Cheers...enjoy the football...I'm off to watch it...

wait, so you would take the Chevy out cause a 20K car is disposable and it wouldnt bother you, but a 250K car you would baby it & wax it? This has nothing to do with driving a car on salted roads, it has to do with protecting something thats expensive and you worked hard to achive....

If you made 20 million dollars a yr, you'd treat a 200K exotic just like you would treat a Chevy now? correct?
