Hey Everyone, This thread on the $17K 308 has me thinking that we need to come up with an easy nomenclature or some other means to discuss 308 "generations." The 308, being produced over 10 years and in several configurations, means that you are always trying to differentiate between different models. In my mind, they break down as: 1. Early carb cars (76-77) 2. Later carb cars (78-80) 3. 2 valve injected cars (80-82) 4 QV (83-85) Of course there is also the sub-category of the fiberglass early cars. So, we could be like the GT4 crowd and call them Series 1, 2, 3, and 4. Or we could come up with something easier to remember. I am getting tired of typing "2 valve injected car" and "later carb car" every time I am discussing a particular evolution of the 308! Any ideas? "QV"....now that is simple. How can we come up with something like that for the other cars? Birdman
Can agree that it is cumbersome (especially when you add "version"), but can't agree that adding another set of "special codes" simplifies the situation. PS QV should be split into '83 US, '84-'85 US, '82-'85 (or is it '86?) standard/euro (and probably some CH and J versions too)
Why not S1 for the euro glass, S2 (75-77 steel carbed), S3 (78-79,80 carbed, cats), S4 (80 up 2V Injected), and QV? S for spyder, B for Berlinetta? Paul S2B 21181 S2B 21645 ?
Hmm, '84-'85 had rustproofing and different emissions, IIRC. I think the market likes those years better than '83.
Dr. Tommy has it here. We just need to be able to differentiate the "2VC early" from the "2VC late" models. 2VCe? 2VC1? We could invent a totally new means of talking about these cars that other people cannot even understand! Birdman
2Vc early 2Vc late 2Vi QV There is a very distict difference between the 77 and earlier cars, and the 78 to 80 carbed cars. Not the least of which that the early cars dont have "cats". They are also the lightest of the US cars, and coupled with 240 + HP, are among the hottest of 308's. Lumping all the carbed cars together would be the same as lumping the injected cars together.
Cool! I've got a (the) Mondial 3.2 QVC ! Or, if you consider the Mondial simply a long wheelbase 328, it's a 328 QVC LWB But it is a coupe version of the 328, and it does have 4 cams, so that makes it a: 328 GTC/4 QVC LWB And since it picked up all that horsepower from the QVC, we have finally a: PDQ 328 GTC/4 QVC LWB That should make Birdman feel better ASAP...
since all the "early" and "late" 2V are carbed how about dropping the c (like Ferrari dropped the "i" with the QV) With these, the "c" is implied. 2Vearly 2Vlate 2Vi QV
It cannot be done Bird... The dividing line on early 308s is the CAT feature....DOT NON CAT vs DOT CAT from 78 on...... So you have to show that break.. 75 -76 glass 77 steel NON CAT 78 -79 steel CAT then all the rest with the heavy bumpers! LOL!
