How do you remove the instrument panel and gauges in a 328? As far as I can tell it's a press fit, but doesn't seem to want to move. Suggestions?

The 4 corner lamps hide the mounting screws for the plate...they are a "snap" fit socket, meaning the prongs will 'snap' off when you mess with them..

Then the gauges are mounted via carrier strap to the face plate.....IIRC.

    That's what I've heard, anyway..

Magnetic screwdriver on the screws or they'll drop into the dash.....

Wrap the lights with two sided tape to build them up and jam them back in!

In addition to the above, you may want to remove the steering wheel for ease of removal and re-assembly.

The steering wheel is already out, but the suggestion is welcome.

The lens cover came off the tach easily enough, but not the other instruments.

Looks like someone's already been in there once based on the scratches on the faceplate.

Thanks Speedy/Bubba/BigTex for the suggestion on the light sockets, will check this evening.

That's to pull the whole plate...then the gauges come out easier......

Mine's scratched too! We should engine turn 'em, like the old Trans Ams! LOL!

    *ahem*

Or at least send it out for refinishing.....you are pulling yours to change color?

Yep. Actually, I want to see what a new panel in bright aluminum will cost, or I might just get this one powercoated -- I'm pretty sure I can get a "bare aluminum" powercoat color.

Just my ongoing effort to turn my car into a 77 GTB :D

You'll need to install leaking cam seals and some rust bubbles, then.......

bubba is right, beware, those plastic light lenses are very fragile, I used a grabber like an olive or ice tongs type of grabber from the bar with three prongs to get as even a pressure on pulling them as possible while pulling them straight out and wiggling ( the lenses that is)

Read somewhere (on this site) you can wrap dental floss around the base of the lamps and pull them out. Thats what I did. Took a few tries but all 4 lamps came out and I didn't break any of the little tabs.

I don't know if this helps, but here is a picture when i pulled mine. :)

You can see the 2 screws on the bottom and then there's 2 more up top corner.

    Good luck.

Is the 308's the same as the 328's instrument panel as far as removing it?

I pulled my 308 panel a few months ago to put in brighter bulbs and it looked identical.
