Not a ferrari question but wanted to get your general opinions:

so im taking the Audi to europe (the RS4) and driving her around for a while. Also ill be taking her on the ring and back to her birthplace in ingolstadt/Neckarsulm.

Also we will be hitting up Ibiza, the love parade, and getting a private tour of the MB factory/museum.

My main question was that I was 90% gonna get the car her own container. The thing is Roll on Roll off (RORO) transport is alot cheaper. Has anyone had any experience of this kind? I know audi brings the cars here RORO, but should I reinstall the shipping blocks, etc?

    What do you guys think?

    The tentative schedule is:
    1) Ship the car to barcelona.
    2) Run across the turnpike to get on a plane to ibiza
    3) Party in ibiza while the car is crossing the atlantic
    4) Hop on a plane from ibiza to barcelona.
    5) meet the car and drive to the MB factory in stuttgart/manheim
    6) go to berlin for love parade
    7) head down to the ring for a day of laps
    8) go to Ingolstadt and get the "I got my car half way around the world to the audi factory badge"
    9) drive down through barcelona (stop in barcelona one night, party)
    10) drive to valencia (stop there one day)
    11) drive to torremolinos and spend a couple of days there
    12) back to valencia (eat some oranges)
    13) back to barcelona, put the audi on a boat and sleep on the flight back:)

Also take a look at this drive. We are going from barcelona to malaga/torremolinos with a stop in valencia. This is going to be an amazing costal drive!

I was just going to say, Ludmilla probably is the best person to talk to about this given that she shipped Marcello to Europe last summer. Seems like you already have.

Route sounds amazing. How many days?

21-25 days. Not sure yet. I gotta see how fast I can drive realistically. I am planning for something between 18-30 days, but trying to keep it around 3 weeks.

I looked into shipping some cars over to Europe last year by sea. Getting it there in it's own container (recommended) isn't the harsh part. What you should have you concerned is:
    1) The insurance. more than the actual shipping
    2) You need someone there to receive the car.
    3) Use someone who has done this before to make sure all paperwork is in order
    4) Prepare to loose the car for 3-4 weeks before the event and after.

    As I recall, it's about $5K.

Yup 5k is what I am budgeting. A couple of responses:

    1) The insurance. more than the actual shipping (no problem on that, my mom is an insurance agent and she is handling getting me a good rate)
    2) You need someone there to receive the car. (I will be there or have the audi dealership receive the car. Audi of America is helping me coordinate).
    3) Use someone who has done this before to make sure all paperwork is in order (I have found good company through Ludmilla that will take care of most paperwork)
    4) Prepare to loose the car for 3-4 weeks before the event and after. (no problem here. Will party in ibiza while its getting to europe and will use the evo after).

First off: You probably do not want to ship the car anywhere yourself! I have heard too many horror stories.

Second: It would be cheaper and easier to sell your RS4 here, and buy a new one, taking European delivery at the time of your vacation. In this way, Audi delivers your car to a specied dealer in Europe and insures your car in Europe for you for the duration of your vacation. Once you are done with your vacation, you drop it off at a specified place (determined by Audi) and they take care of shipping your car to the US and dealing with import duties, port of entry and all that BS.

If you insist on shipping your car to Europe, you want to do roll-on-roll-off, and NOT put your car in a container. One of my good friends is in this business and he has always told me that this is the worst option for a single, privately owned car, because all too often, containers are dropped, smacked and rocked around and this could seriously mess your car up. Any type of shipping will take at least a month in each direction (unless you know the owner of some big shipping company or ship owner). The other option is shipping your car via airplane.

FYI, you can rent some really sweet a$$ cars in Switzerland, and also in southern France (and maybe even Barcelona). It would be a helluva lot cheaper to rent a car than to take your own, especially if your car is damaged in transit (which happens all too often to private vehicles that are shipped).

    Best of luck!

The car is awesome in every way. Think of it as buying a 997 Carrera 4S with 4 doors.

Audi does NOT do European Delivery for the RS 4. They do though provide track sessions in europe with RS 4s, but they will not allow you to take it off the track. Seems as if they don't trust the future owners.

    Direct from AoA:
Please note that the Audi RS4 does not qualify for the Audi European Delivery Program and a special program is being considered for this specialty vehicle. Audi of America will keep you informed of this special offer in the near future.
