Will it be an April Fool's prank or real money? Make your pick for overall and average car valuations for 2007 versus 2006 Florida for Barrett-Jackson.

Can't say that you predicted it if you aren't on the record in advance!

(yes, you can select 2 options if desired - for the overall money and for the average sales price)

    Survey says... down 18.7%.

I thing the shenanagins of the January auction are going to catch up with the BJ boys. I know one couple that lost a potential 100 grand in value because of the Beatles stuff they threw in the middle of the Saturday night process. They went on stage 2.5 hours late, after the cameras were turned off.

    cheers

I think all of the owners of American Muscle car exotica will do the honest thing and will arrange for a ceremonial burning of there replicas, continuations, and other fakes.

Price per car down, total value up. It will take some time yet before the BJ guys feel the winds of change. They have too many followers for the train to stop rolling now.

They'd have to roll more cars through to get such a result...which would probably lead to somewhat of a decrease in perceived quality.

It wouldn't do their image much good to get that result (but I grant that it could happen, feasibly).

I think the bottom is slowly going to drop out of the inflated muscle car market. I used to love to watch B-J, but after this year, something went out of it. I've always wished that they would have a wide variety of cars roll across, not just resto-rods, muscle cars and "tribute" cars. I like to see more vintage cars and European cars. What I would really like to see is Craig Jackson at the drive-thru saying "would you like an apple pie with that". . .

Maybe nobody's voting because nobody cares? Having "announced" at a couple of auctions I could tell you about shenanigans (but not in this public forum, thank you).

OK! BJ Palm Beach has begun.

24 out of the first 36 cars sold today in Palm Beach went for under $20k.

One 1964 Corvette convertible went for a mere $44k, and Ted Danson's celebrity Cheers TV sitcom red 1964 Corvette Convertible sold for a modest $36k (a good buy price, in my opinion, kudos to that bidder).

Amphicar went for $75k (at Scottsdale previously an Amphicar went for $90k, and two years ago BJ sold an Amphicar with more miles and worse condition for $123k).

1955 Chevy Bel Air went for $32.5k today (interesting because BJ Scottsdale earlier this year saw 1955 Bel Airs sell for $56k, and the previous year, 2006, the 1955 Bel Airs were selling at BJ for $92k).

90 cars sold today for $2.76 Million.

    I was very surprised at:

    How looooww the prices were.

So I should not be so surprised that:
The auctioneer spent a lot of time trying to milk the bidders ("Going once, going twice, going 5 times, do I hear 29,750? Do I hear 29,740?")

The not-so-bad-looking if-you're-kinda-drunk handler chick did NOT look happy.

It was kind of weird, when the handler was working, and I mean -working- the skyboxes, the bidders rich wives wouldn't shutup. I mean when my wife goes with me, we're partners. (She has Buick GS convertible), but these ladies were just frickin yapping.

The 6-pak Roadrunner was a good buy. Most of the Corvettes were a steal.

Now if only the price drops will trickle down to the GTC/4 market

There was no money in the room. The BJ staff were all clearly upset. Spanky was trying way too hard and the bidding assistants weren't smiling, joking, etc.

I agree with you that the Corvette's sold at good prices for Buyers and that the audience seemed to generally be there for entertainment rather than for bidding.

Perhaps it was an opening-day hiccup. We'll see by the end of tonight if that was either a one-off event or else the first sign of a full-scale auction implosion ('55 Bel Air owners aren't going to be happy, that's for sure).

Well, let's take the Big View here:

Tons of bad press on the past standard practices, shill bidding, they've used to enrich themsleves...

Autweek coverage of litigation they've filed AGAINST their customers.......

They have ruined their name, which relied IMO on niave newbies to function in the first place. That together with expensive fuel and food really doesn't lend itself to this "The Party Never Ends" mentality they have been trying to maintain...

The party's over, the hangover is here, and the hooker from last night is coyote ugly.........

I don't know if the party is over (hey, that was just the first night of the auction!), but I *was* reminded by the crowd last night of the final party that MC Hammer was throwing before the money ran out.

I guess I'm being overly harsh...thanks for the report..

Let's see if the Keels and Wheels here is a truer read of car value, after all the Oil Patch did real well last year!

And John O' Quinn will be lose on the prowl.......

I am a little bit offended that you seem to be referring to my "not-so-bad-looking if-you're-kinda-drunk handler chick" by the name "Spanky" which if it is not her real name, is somewhat degrading.

By the way, is "Spanky" really her name? That would be soooo cool.
