Yesterday, I called our fellow FChatter from Houston that bought my 348 last week. I wanted to see how his trip was going from N. CA to S. CA and a possible drive back to Texas with the car.

He told me that in the LA area, the 5/8 check engine light came on......I just about drove off the road! BUT! He told me that he got it checked out and it was just a bad battery that was messing with the alternator. If it was something major, I would have wanted to put a bullet in my head!

Hmm, I'd check that very carefully. When I had my alternator problem (I presume the symptoms would be similar), the symptom was not a check engine light, it was the battery indicator light that initially started intermittently coming on and going off. Never once did either of the check engine lights come on. (Except routinely at start up to indicate that they still illuminate and that they haven't been disabled of course!)

I would check to make sure that either he was mistaken and it was the battery light that came on, and if it were one of the check engine lights, you should really check it out.

Just my opinion, take it for what it is worth.

    Pete,

I would not worry. Jeremy is on a high with that car, and it's going to take a long time for him to come down.

A battery is par for any course.

    Jeremy's a very happy camper.

Jeez man! I thought you set the clock so that it will blow up once it crosses the California border. ;)

I'm sure it will be okay for Jeremy. Hope he chooses to drive it to Texas - boring road but at least you can max the baby out on desolate stretches of I-10.

You are a good man Peter even if you have a wicked sense of humor (I am still remembering the crashed 348 picture) :D

Dont feel bad mate. You get that on big jobs. :p My friend once sold a car to another friend and within 2 weeks, the engine developed a big end bearing noise. The car was always serviced (by me) and maintained well (by me) and this had to happen. Bearing picked up and spun. Sh*t happens. The owner was cool about it, because no one knew it was coming. My friend felt bad for 5 mins, then realised sh*t happens, life goes on. :):)

No no no no............this was not a Ferrari that was sold and that had spun a bearing. :):) The car was a 2002 Holden Commodore. :p:p AU$18K he sold it for. Cost AU$2K for an exchange engine. All good again then. ;)
