Well, there goes Luca's freshman year at Yale: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Scheduled or unscheduled maintenance?! Nice metal cambelt covers, by the way. Those cost me a grand to upgrade my 348. Obviously you'll be going with the Hill Engineering tensioners, but which waterpump?
Scheduled maintenance. It'll get a few unexpected (but not earth-shaking updates): H2O pump won't be replaced; OEM one was installed July '03. I track the car frequently enough that I'm not going to stray from the Ferrari pump. I applaud the prior owner for this well documented installation (see below). * Full 30K with Hill Bearings * New plug wires and plugs * New front wheel bearing (ack!) * Some minor welding of the battery box * Likely new oil cooler fan * Pretty sure the oil pump TSB has been done. If not, that'll be performed. * Crinkle paint the covers. * Possible non-clutch (but mechanical) work 'behind' the engine, that I'm not going to discuss for fear of Mrs. JRR reading this thread. * New tires * A missing underbelly pan will be replaced thanks to a fellow Fchatter who outbid me on eBay Most importantly, the work is being performed at Sport Auto. (www.sportauto.cc), because they're super cool and they let Wylie pee on the grass, and Luca touch the Lambos (when big Steve isn't looking). Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cool! Maybe you can get FerrariOldMan to finally give the definitive process for timing 348 cams. ...so you already had the Hill Engineering tensioners on the car from the prior owner?! Tres cool.
^^ no. OEM bearings are on it. They will be replaced with Hills. I think I hadn't finished posting the photo above. I was referring to the H2O pump that'll remain in place.
Good Pics Dan, At least you won`t have any problems with finding the right parts (LOL)!! Regards, Phil.
So Daniel ......When was the last major engine out service? What made you decide on doing it now? How about the expected fee all included? I need to have mine done a year from now. Any helpful feedback on Sport Auto after you've run it for a littel bit would be greatly appreciated.
1. Last service was mid 2003. Time was up, and I had rolled 25K miles, plus lots of track abuse. 2. Pesky right front cam seal was leaking because the TSB weep hole had never been drilled on my car. Used this as an excuse to buy the correct tool from Italy, and establish a rental program for shops that might need it. 3. Front wheel bearing needed replacement 4. A wee bit of welding to my subframe is necessary, and I'd rather have it done before the upcoming driving season 5. A bit of mechanical work is needed in the unmentionable lump just aft of the engine, but let's not discuss that. It's too frightening. 6. The timing belt is just a SMALL portion of a 'major' service. My belt looked great and was very snug against all the teeth with no noticeable slop. My Ferrari is my favorite toy and I worked a damn long time to afford it. As such, I'll maintain it per the best advice of Ferrari and the trusted professional techs I speak with on a regular basis.
Why so? And for crying out loud Dan, how come you didn't dual floor jack the engine? Then Luca could have still gone to Yale his freshmen year.
Yee ol' rust worm has done some nasty damage to the areas circled below. Me thinks the original few years this car spent up north were not friendly to it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Daniel, just received the x-ost. They will be installed next week when the 30k service is completed. I saw them today with the hyper flow cats. BEAUTIFUL. I will post pics as the service progresses. Good luck on your service as well.
