Do you play with Veto in Sepang? Maybe you know Eugene (silver WRX)? I think he is not as active as Veto.

Even though we have access to the track, I must say that I am not a track advocate as much. You can get way over your head on trackdays, i.e overdriving the car and in an almost 10 years old vehicle IMO is not a wise thing to do! However, an STI or the EVOs are more fun on the track because of the relative peace of mind that you get with most Japanese cars..which means unless you crash, there is a 100% possibility of driving back home unlike the so called exotic makes with the exception of the P-Car. I have seen a Murcielago going back on a trailer, not to mention our prancing horses exiting Sepang on flatbeds due to the drivers overdriving them. These happens because the Exotics are supposed to be 'faster' than the rally specials. However, unless you are Dario Benuzzi or at minimal a professional racing driver, most 'good' drivers in a Scooby/Evo/Skyline will walk away from you.

When I do Sepang, it's more or less an opportune moment for me to stretch the legs of the 355, not to race against fellow peers. Some of the younger drivers do race for fun but I don't make it a point to whip their butts or anything like that! I am not that good anyways. There are some crowd on the unofficial trackdays and to them an F-car should be way faster than the ricers. As long as you can control the red mist and don't have anything to prove, you are fine.

My former GTR-R34 was only minor modded. Chipped, Greddy exhausts and 18" SE37 VR wheels, 400HP. That's about it. My wife ain't chuffed about the car which she says is way too boy-racerish and was she glad to see the car go! She hated the phssst sound of the b.o.v and asked whether the car can live without it! I owned the Godzillas before as a culmination of a since-retired 'illegal racer'. I own a Ferrari now as THE culmination of being a car nut. That is what I told my wife. She's an accountant so you can imagine.....

Kuala Klawang is about 40km from KL. No traffic cops and No cameras/gatsos.
Something like a deserted road ( cos everybody uses the highway now ) with very few cars now and then or the odd Honda C70, small bikes. 10% of the FUTA PASS without the snow, of course!

Our toll roads are very well policed, not because the cops are that diligent but for some other reasons..!! However there are still some places where you can really let loose and try to hit top speeds. One really nice stretch is about 10km long and as far as the eyes can see! I saw 270 on the speedo before the buffeting and rocking ( caused by undulations that gets amplified at high speeds ) slows me down. The car is rock solid but I fear for the gearbox casing etc touching the tarmac and $$$.

As for me buying the CS, yeah maybe I would if we make good but I plan to keep the 355 for a while yet and get the CS used. Most of the CS buyers are non-trackers anyway so if I want one and there is one up for sale, I'd know the car hasn't been abused! I believe there should be a couple out there because the F430 is already here and the NEW F-Car buyers in KL normally would trade their CS in for a newer model. Sheesh! the ppl here who can afford them new don't know why they buy the CS in the first place. F-1 gearbox = I can drive to the pub/bistro and show off in Bangsar. Sad.

Aisayman..why on the 16th baru you all nak buat trackday ? Pulak with other Eye-Tie cars ? I'm back by the 14th ( supposedly, InsyaAllah..) and like I told you will have to be in SG by the 15th. The initial plan is to drive the 355 down and see you in JB to makan ikan bakar BEFORE meeting the Aussies later in the nite in SG for some much needed R n R..Trying to convert a fellow Malaysian Car Nut to Ferraridom takes first priority..

This causes a shift in plans. Will reschedule the meeting on Saturday to the afternoon and I will fly down to SG and IF I don't have to stay longer and my Partner can overstay on my behalf, I'll fly back up to KL and meet up with you all. If so, I have your mobile number and will call you the night before, i.e 15th itself, and if you guys are already in KL...to go out and kena some teh tarik with your crew so that the next day you guys don't embarass me..( in this case I think you should close one eye to the practice of bribery..)

Looking on the bright side, at least the 800km or so mileage that will be put on the S-02's will be put to an even greater pleasure, and I won't be collecting any tickets..

Still I envy you cause at the track at least you can feel more secure to take turn at quite high speed but not on the road which is dangerous especially in here. The surface also much better the the road quality for sure.

Overdrive you meant they driven the car untill the engine & break overheat or because of someting else?

Was your GTR the Spec V?

Overdriving in the sense that you over-rev, over-brake and get over-excited.

I have sat with a friend who is a campaigner in the 355 Challenge series a couple of years ago and we were at the Batu Tiga Track for some shakedown on his 355 then. The way these pro-drivers shift and double declutch are nothing short of amazing. They're as cool as cucumber and that's when you can 'think' of nailing a perfect braking point, cornering lines and exit.

On the Sepang or any other track for that matter, the most important thing is to be familiar with it, take your car and your time to learn the cornering lines and the braking points. That's what a trackday is all about although just like golf, without any side bet it won't be half as much fun! Your friend Veto and some guys I know are devils on the track because aside from being excellent drivers, they are familiar with the track and the time and effort spent on it will definitely translate into better lap times.


Yes, my Godzillas were both V-Specs, the GTR-R33 and the GTR-R34. But those days were normally spent blazing the highways from KL to Penang in the wee hours of the morning to have a nice Nasi Kandar breakfast!
Interstate travel don't get much better than that...unless I can afford the 456GTM or the Scag ....

I believe you are capable to buy a house over here..near Sepang...and get a used 355/360 and be on the track every Saturday!!! Not so expensive around Sepang, circa USD120k will get you a nice detached house @ 7000/sf land with 2800-3200/sf built up....The KLIA is very near too...hehe...

Iskandar, do you have any information about CS version in Indo/Malay?
I am aware that there are 2 version of CS, 420hp & 425 HP, less loud muffler & loud version (europe).
Which one for us?

In my manual book the factory quote for 305KW. What is the correct conversion number to HP?

I asked Ferrari dealer here & they said my car is British version. Suppose to be 425 & loud version right?

The R-34 V spec still an expensive car here, about USD $ 100000. How about the price overthere?

I have plan to go to KL in the next few weeks if everything OK... .. will hunt for good Kwee Tiaw

 

Surprisingly 305KW = 305,000 Watt = 305,000/746 = 408.8hp.
425hp = 425x746 = 317,050 Katt = 317KW

The conversion rate for kw to Hp is 1.36. Therefore the factory quoted figures
of 305kw is a bit on the conservative side...surprising because the Italians are not normally known for being pessimists..! Most if not all RHD vehicles are supplied to UK specs except Japan/Australia. What is the calibration of your speedo ? MPH or KMH ? I can only ascertain the Malaysia/Indonesian specs when I get back to KL and meet the NAZA guys, our local Ferrari importers. Whatever, a CS is still a CS and plenty fast enough, you lucky dude!

The GTR-R34 are still available in KL, albeit in re-conditioned form. Prices range from USD75k-USD85k. Fully imported new it'd costs about the same as Indonesia's list.

As for the buying of cars and houses here..hehe...its just a suggestion...

Gonna be in China at least till mid April...miss the Kuay Teow too..

Yes it is printed 305 KW & surprised me because in many car magazines always quoted 420HP for US version & 425HP for Euro version...

My speedo is in KPH. Since when they quote the power conservatively? ... hahhaha ...
I just don't understand about the way car magazine can quote 420 & 425HP but in the manual book only 305KW.
I have the 5th Gear video about CS and they me also said 425BHP. What is the difference between UK & Japan/Aussie version?

Still remember the jokes ppl made about Italian cars' speedo. Most if not all Italian cars those days use VEGLIA instrumentation and the motoring press dubbed it VAGUE-LIAR!!!

Checked with the local Ferrari Importer website and it too stated that the CS has 425hp. Therefore it should read 312.5kW or thereabouts. Am not sure about why it's stated 305kW...maybe some way of getting around some EEC regulation perhaps. Anyway, it's worth investigating if I were you. NEWSFLASH ! IT COULD BE THE SAME OWNERS MANUAL AS A STANDARD MODENA, the 400hp stock. 305kw equates to 396.5 hp. That could be it. A bloody typo! Funny if it is so because the specification sheet is the one that their specification proof reader should emphasize on...to get all the facts right and not to make a CS owner feel shortchanged in the power department. Maybe you can access another owner's manual and take a look in the datasheet on a 360M power output.

The Japanese specification difference I am not sure about. The Australian models have to be within their 'in-famous' ADR standards. In both cases, NOISE should be an issue. I for one can vouch that the ADR ( Australian Design Rules ) are the toughest in the world to get around.

I'm lusting after the CS next. Been reading so much good about it that I feel it is the best buy out there for an exotic. Drive it like you stole it, Setiawan!

I am still waiting the Stradale & Modena HP from Ferrari Workshop here.
My manual book is definitely for Stradale because all the pictures & description are only for Stradale. Modena has several different button function than Stradale. Mistype on HP quote might be but .... I am not sure.
I will inform you when I got the data from the workshop.

The Ferrari workshop just SMS me that according to their CD Manual Workshop they have F360 Modena is 294KW. With your conversion number X 1.36 = 399.84HP.
Don't you think this is very funny? So my CS is 305 X 1.36 = 414.8HP only.

The question is only Indonesian (or asia) CS version or for other country too?
Iskandar, would you kindly check with your Ferrari gang about what their CS manual claim or printed about the power?
Or maybe only my manual book has different HP claim .... huahahhahah ....

What a nice riddle .. don't they have any better riddle for me? ...

I did some search from the archive file here .. and found that the US CS buyers also confuse with their manual book stated for 409HP ONLY ...

So at least I know that I am not the only one ...

The offical HP for the power of the CS is 425 hp.
Most MOdenas can be converted by Offical Ferrari W/S for the CS Gear Box and exhaust for $$$$$$$$$$$

Italians are always making mistakes except on Press release to press which i have.

 

Are there thruely competetive prices on fresh models in your country,I mean Enzo,SLR,F430,etc

 

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier.

Last time someone tried to sell brnd new Enzo & asked for $1.2M or about $1.9M on the road (after taxes). Brand new F430 is about $460,000 on the road ... I am not following the f430 price closely after I tried it on the race track.

AFAIK there is no SLR yet.

im looking forward to be getting my first ferrari car this year, im thinking hard on either getting a secondhand 360/cs OR a brand new F430/f430 spider.

i have been planning and saving these last 3 years of getting the ferrari i've dream for, the budget for the car is no longer a problem.

all i wanted is just an honest opinions from you guys on which one i should go for..

i know the 360/cs is a beautiful classic and i also know that the 430 manettino etc, since i've been seing people who are well aware of these features...

any experiences suggestions, and even votes are very welcome

oh yeah and another thing about two weeks ago i was driving next to a new 599 fiorano a black one plate number B 1000 FN with a stciker on the side showing the 60th ferrari relay. but what dissapointed me was the sound of the v12 engine next to me.....it was soo damn quite....almost cant notice it was a ferrari...i used to drive my girlfriend 550 Maranello in Sydney....and back then it was beautiful and loud as hell...hell it even gave my girl a turn on....

whats wrong??? is it becoz a new ferrari or maybe a drowngrade quality for south east asian country.... hell if thats the case ill be saving another year to get a limited f60 ferrari ENZO... i want that beautiful revving sound back!!!!

 

AFAIK modern Ferrari's are using exhaust flap to reduce the sound to meet the regulation but once you hit the throttle hard then the exhaust flap will open and it will scream quit loud.

You won't hear the Real Ferrari Sound when it idle or cruising or on light throtle whilst accelerate unless you change your exhaust with aftermarket without flaps.

The sound of stock F550 is nothing compare to CS when the CS flaps open. I got the soundclip of F599 when in full throttle and it sounds quit loud & deep throaty.

first i wanna thanks Prodrive for giving a very helpful insight...

i also wanna say congrats for such a nice car, the stradale.... it reminds me a lot of my UNI years back in sydney, where i used to live near to a ferrari dealer and back then that car was the hottest one around, there was this ad about the CS about 2 couples meeting each other driving the CS it was way way cool.....and i hoped that someday ill have enough money to get it.

And now that time has come, but unfortunately the CS has been replaced with a more powerfull car the F430....it confused me wether i should get the CS or the f430.... so yesterday i went to the dealer and asked them....obviously they talked me to get the new f430 since its the newest product line they got, they said " it suits me, my age, young and fun (btw im in my mid 20's)" but they also said to wait at least 6 - 8 months 10 months max...and i said to myself "YEAH RIGHT!!!!!" offcourse i want that car, but waiting is over babe.... i wanna get as soon as possible..
then another thing they gave me a list of customize options....but this one my friend has already been anticipated....

and now im back home, thinking and thinking HARD, i have an appointment with the dealer this saturday for a test drive.. and still have a decision to make....damn....

anyone anybody help me...big dillema....
