Hello, I am planning to go to the USGP this year. This will be my first trip to an F1 event and I was wondering where the best place to get tickets is and what seating area is the best? Are Penthouse Stands A& B good? I was hoping to spend the entire weekend at the race and various events!! Any opinion and advise will be helpful.

    THANKS

    Kevin

the best place to sit is grandstand J , section 4 or 5 for the race . for qualifying , its nice to sit in the grandstands across from the pit garages.
theres a big screen TV right in front of you & cool to check out the times
& you get to see all the action in the pits. enjoy the race.

I have not been to the indy race yet, but i have been to almost all the european races, so i guess the same rules apply.
I normaly try and get a grandstand seat for the race in an over taking zone (turn 1 at indy). I try not to watch any of the F1 practice / qualifying from where i will be watching the race. its always good to get a feel for as many corners as possible. Any fast sections with direction changes are a must see, it will take ages to get your head around how fast these cars can corner around some off the sections. i know the indy "in field" is a little slow tho!!!
F1 fanatic has got it right, the most important thing for qualifying is that u can easly read the times on the big screen, i have often went into the general admission areas and popped myself in good view of a screen and track during Q simply for that reason. I always pick a race seat with a big screen too...

    Kevin,

I agree with Chicko, the first turn is the place to be. I too sat elsewhere during the practice and qualifying just move around and take it all in. You can move about the track for practice/qualifying.

The tracks website will get you to your tickets:

    http://www.brickyard.com

They are not to difficult to get, even the day of, but I would buy in advance and be patient and they will mail them out to you.

As far as hotel..your a little behind the ball right now but you should be able to still get a room. Expect to pay the full event price up front. I'd stay downtown Indy if you can get a room, or on the westside of town. Last year I looked late and got in for a good price near the airport at a new hotel. But If your gonna party, stay downtown so you dont have to worry about driving.

If your driving your Fcar the FCA has a lot directly adjacent to the track to park in and the speedway will have a Fcar parking corral as well.

Hope to see ya there, best of luck.

Now if I were to come if the ferrari can I park in the F-car lot? Do you need to call ahead or something? How much does it cost? I am definitly going to the GP but we have never considered driving the ferrari due to parking.

If you go and have an Fcar, it's a must to take it along for the ride. I got some wonderful pics of an F40 out front of the museum during the quick down poor on Saturday I believe. They were great shots with the water beads reflecting the sunlight.

PS Thank you to the owner who left it out for all to see if he is on here.

The cheapest way in is the season pass, which is a general admission pass good for all 3 days. Best bargain around, but you have to hang out in the infield come race day -- there's no TV screen visible the infield.

The turn 1 (USGP) stands are packed and fun, and you've got the best view of the braking zone + a big TV to watch the boradcast

    1st photo -- infield view
    2nd -- H stand (I think)
3rd -- Turn 10 terrace at the end of the short straight

I like Penthouse A for the race. At the S/F line, across from the pits, across from victory lane. Big screen TV to watchthe rest of the track. And most of the seats are under cover, so if it rains, or is terribly hot.................

From turn 4 you can see the turn 1 action, passes being made and unmade by turn 2 tried again at 3 and undone at 4. If you sit high enough you see a little more action, plus a couple of tv screens. Of course your exposed to the weather (both sun and rain). Normally you can't get to your seat until race day.
We don't party so we Stay in Anderson and save $$$ on the hotel.

    stephen

ps ditto on getting the event fri an sat ticket(s). and move around.

You might want to check with Ferrari Club of America. They usually have tickets, packages, parties*, etc.

*I used to only drink on days that end in Y. Now I only drink on days that begin with T; Today and Tomorrow.

I've sat in stand H every year except for last year. (I missed the race:(
Those are the best seats hands down! Spend the practice sessions moving around and cruising the infield. If the weather is nice, I like to lie on one of the infield mounds and watch practice on the jumbo screens.
    Oh yeah, BRING EARPLUGS!!!

We sat in J last year, but we didn't really like it that much, so we opted to sit in the Turn 6 Terrace this year.

    Good luck!
