Hey guys, What's your opinion of putting Ferrari shields on your daily drivers? Do any of you do it, even subtly? Sometimes I see 'regular' cars with shields on them and I wonder if they're second cars for Ferrari owners.
i think it's kinda silly. but different people like to show their enthusiam in different ways, so, like, whatever.
There is a Ferrari shield that I frequently see on the back of a black Suburban with dark tinted windows. I really don't know if they actually own a Ferrari, but seeing that doesn't bug me particularly.
For the Ferrari French Quarter Classic in 2004 I had purchased a Ford "Boss" truck to tow the Ferrari. The truck and the 360 are the same color, well almost. But, I ordered stickers for the truck and the trailer. There should have been a best looking truck/trailer competition, sure I would have won. Anyway, the truck was purchased after I saw one driving home from San Antonio in the 360 after a regional meet in April of 2004. Came home on Sunday and saw the truck. Tracked one down, only 250 made in this color, and purchased it by the following Thursday. Recently gave it to my niece, she turned 16. Here are the pix. I fly a Voodoo "Polo Rampante" badge on my supercharged Miata w/ Voodoo at SCCA club meet & Ferrari club meets. I also wear the very cool T-shirt to some events. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Shields on a non-Ferrari seem kind of silly to me. I do admit to having a FCA sticker on the front windshield of my wife's car, though.
If you actually own a Ferrari, I can't see anything wrong with putting a small sticker or decal on your Daily Driver. Kind of a subtle way of letting others know that "My other car is a Ferrari", without having to put on one of those cheesy, 1980's style License Plate frames that says that.... Or if you are a member of one of the Ferrari Clubs, and, you feel that is something that is important for you to do, then why not? IMHO... If someone puts the big S/F shields on the sides of the front fenders, like on a Ferrari, but on something else but....It is Pathetic! Very Poor taste! Extremely Lame!!! ....What's the point? I saw a red Porsche 924 like that. It sucked! That guy should get a Ferrari instead of playing pretend! There are many very affordable Ferrari's out there. But, if someone who does not own a Ferrari does it, it would be like putting a Harvard or Yale decal in your back window, if you don't go there. Again....what's the point? But hey....what the hell...who really cares...No big deal. I'm sure that more than 3/4 of the "over 30,000 owners and enthusiats" here on FChat have them on everything from their School books, Lockers, Skateboards, Bicycles, Tricycles, Lil' Red Wagons, Strollers, what have you..... So, what difference does it make, really... And I suppose it's just like the millions of people who put Harley Davidson decals in their back windows so that they think that others think that they actually own a Harley. There's a bumpersticker and T-shirt for that...Says something like: "Some people own a Harley sticker. (or T-shirt) I own a Harley"...
Shields on anything other than a Ferrari that left the factory with them... no. Wow. Karen, I'm trying to figure out how some highbrow way to compliment you on your photo. Nice, uh, T-shirt.
So if I am a non-owner and a member of one of the clubs, what should I do? Do I put half a sticker on? I really don't get this attitude. I think it really boils down to the poseur factor. If you have a passion for the cars and just haven't socked away enough pennies to buy one, I see nothing wrong with having a small sticker to show that you are a fan. For the record, no I don't have a sticker displayed anywhere on any of my vehicles.
Nothing 'wrong' with it, it just seems kind of odd. When I had my Fiat X1/9, it had a stripe decal on the side that said Fiat. I suppose I could have stuck a Scuderia Ferrari shield on it, but it would have seemed like I (1) had an inferiority complex about driving a Fiat - which wasn't true, I loved that car or (2) was delusional. I guess to me it seems like sewing an Armani label on a sweater from Target. What's the point? Enjoy what you have and keep socking away pennies. (The sticker on the pickup/towing rig above I understand - no one would think you're trying to pass a big truck off as a Ferrari...)
But hey!, that IS the point! Do what ever YOU want to do! That's exactly correct! The "poseur factor". If someone wants others to THINK that they own a Ferrari, then, why not. They'll get found out sooner or later! If they are simply a fan, then why not. It surely doesn't hurt anything. But, I am going to go out on a limb here, and say that probably MOST of the Ferrari Owners here didn't have a rich daddy just go out and buy them a Ferrari...It more than likely took them Many, Many years of very hard work, perseverence, and a very long time to "Finally realize the Dream". So, it makes it something very, very special, and not to be taken lightly by anyone just wanting to "glom on"... So, forgive me if you may think that I have a little bit of an "attitude", but, If I do, I've certainly "earned it!" (and now on Ferrari #2 after MORE years of hard work, and perseverence, BTW...) And, someday, I sincerely hope that others will too! Just like you said....keep saving your pennies!
I have seen it on SUV/Trucks before and I think that is kinda OK/cool. Especially, if its a tow vehichle. My Friend raced his RX-7 with SF Shields in SCCA as a Lark. Bottom line, if you don't like it don't do it to your car. Then again, I was considering a "designo di pinin farina" side plate for my wife's Altima, which I still think is subtle and funny. -dsd
The 400I I just brought came with sheilds, the first thing that came off were those sheilds, my wife and I came to that same decsion with out talking to each other about it. Only cars that were raced, IMO
I've got one shield sticker on the back glass of my SUV. Nothing on my 308... What's the point? I'd love it if Ferrari offered a special sticker for registered owners. Maybe a badge with the model and last six of the VIN under it. Until then I guess a FCA or FOC will say "My other car is a Ferrari".
I guess you meant to say "Pollo Rampante" or more properly "Gallo Rampante". Nice shot, by the way...sexy and misterious!
I've got shields on my Ford Excursion PSD along with the FCA decal. It tows my race car among it's other duties
