I feel the same. - You could write a book on just Countach interiors (variations and different placement of the gauges). Example: The dash of the post 88 dd QV RHD cars, were not as updated as the ROW LHD cars.

This is the direction the Registry should take. Their are some significant variations between these cars. - Certainly more than a late P400, and an early P400S have.

It is also possible that detailed archives will never be located. Perhaps this could be a plot, for a future Indiana Jones movie ?

Sharps pics of the rosso Countach ! - Dash is not supposed to be done in leather.

    Thankyou Ralph.

From a famed publication on Ferraris (much better organized factory in the 60s & 70s with far superior record-keeping):
"Ferrari was notorious for making running (production) changes, using up old chassis, bodies, components & hardware on a new series of cars.........."

Food for thought Id say, and one does not have to stretch the imagination to understand what went on at Lamborghini.

Anyone who thinks Automobili Lamborghini SpA circa 1970s was run with military precision, complete record-keeping and planned logical production variations, is naive in the extreme. We have plenty of original documentation on file to easily refute that kind of out-moded thinking.
Avoiding bankruptcy and the shutting down of the plant was the focus from 1978 to 1980. Alas, in September 1980, according to its controller Alessandro Artese, the best laid plans did not come to pass and Automobili Lamborghini SpA was declared bankrupt. A copy of a letter announcing this historic event is well-documented. Record-keeping was but a distant notion at that time. LOL.

    Joe

BTW - Thanks for all the supportive comments on the simplification & correction of what is posted about the LP400S on the registry.

I posted a few months ago, about what actually are the correct exterior mirrors for a 79 car (notice no mention of the actual model designation). We can all hold hands, and sing songs at the camp fire. lol

Bill's (SMS) x-79 red/black car has one Sebring mirror, and looking at the Coulter book on Page 75, the brown car in the pic VIN # 1121100, also has large Sebring (early style / pod type) mirrors as well. Both of these cars were built after my car.

However I have also seen the small square mirrors as well, during the 79 production run. I suppose early period pics, are the most useful. Someone along the way changed out my mirrors, for the more modern design. It appears that either the Sebring, or small square mirrors are correct for 79 cars.

Same old Lamborghini story, from the dark days of the late 70's. - Whatever was in the parts bin at the time, was mounted on the car.

    What is as new?

    The dash is wrong

The lenses under the headlights are wrong (89' style)

That is a bit high for a car that is not original and needs things put back that are not available anymore like the lenses.

The dash panel looks bare alum. That's not correct? Would look good with some engine turning though. And the "S" looks upside down too....LOL poor countach. No one will post picks of their car for fear of being disected by internet judges:)

Thats messed up that the factory would do an incorrect interior restoration.

The engine room was not done...

That is a bit and piece restoration not a full 100%.

    Very nice though.

PS: Black trunk and engine pulls are wrong....they should be chrome.

The engine bay was done, it was all done, but they 'sympathetically' restore it using what they have available. Engine latches are also Annivesario. At least you can say "the factory did it all and I have an invoice to prove it".

Also, now you may understand when it is said that a contemporary restorer who REALLY knows the cars (like Bobileff) is far better. Actually, the 'factory' calls Gary looking for parts. LOL.

Engine latches are Fiat X1/9. Anniversario has a blank for the lock.
