Such awesome garages! I have been really thinking more and more about starting a business of doing custom garages. I am a GC and have the building experience and also have training in architecture so I think I have the ability. My problem is I have no idea how to start the business. Of course i would do it on the side until i gain enough momentum to leave the corporate world. Im just not sure where to start. Does anyone know of a good pc-based software program where i can put together a business plan?
    Thanks,
    Nate

Vault (www.showroomgarage.com) has launched a new line of cabinets called the "Designer Series". They are stainless steel furniture-grade construction and are meant to complement the "Professional Series" of cabinets. Pricing for a 12' length of cabinetry ranges from $5,000-$7,000 for a full bank of upper and lower cabinets and a 96" long 1.5" thick stainless steel countertop, depending upon the configuration.

The website will premier these new cabinets on March, but you call Vault toll-free at (866) 828-5810 for more information or email at: [email protected]

Definitely a nice piece of furniture to have in a garage. But stainless steel is an overkill.

Agreed. Nice stuff, if you like SS(I don't, too cold feeling), but for much less than that price I can have a carpenter custom build and stain a nice set of cabinets.

Stainless has advantages. It has proven corrosion protection, won't rust and will last a lifetime of use. Overall, the life cycle cost advantages of stainless steel outweigh aluminum, steel and wood based cabinets.

Over time, aluminum and steel can corrode and/or rust, whereas stainless steel has a much longer life expectancy and greater piece of mind. This is particularly important because automobile fluids, chemicals, cleaners and other items that are commonly stored and used in the garage can corrode aluminum or rust steel. Cleaning stainless is also a lot easier in the event of spill [If you've ever tried to clean up grease on a melamine door face you know what I mean].

I stored pool chemicals in a storage cabinet once and it ate right through my powder coated steel cabinet. I ended up tossing it in the trash. Had that cabinet been stainless, it would still reside in my home.

Regarding wood based cabinets, the garage is a harsh environment and the extreme fluctuations in temperature and moisture can cause particleboard and plywood to expand and contract. That can cause major problems over time.

I've also found that melamine cabinet’s dent easily and often times are not built with heavy-duty shelving or door slides to accommodate heavy tools. These products were intended to store spices and utensils, not bulky items.

Like everything else, it comes down to quality versus price. Stainless, however, it not overkill. If there is anywhere in the home where stainless is appropriate, in my opinion its the garage.
