During the race season only the bar code will be on the cars.. not Marlboro.

That is good news! My understanding was that they banned it from every race this year.

No. It is my understanding that there will be no tobacco branding at any races.
It is also my understanding that Marlboro are still paying Ferrari a LOT of money - amazing!

F1 Magazine also stated that Marlboro is the major contributor to the drivers salaries this year also.

Yeah, the FIA but an end to tobacco advertising this year. I also agree the car looks better with it on. Can anyone explain why they are allowed to put it on the car in Abu Dhabi? Anyone know the specifics of the tobacco ban?

All this talk about them not being allowed on the car and still paying has gotten them a lot more press than if it was on there and nobody said anything.

It looks like they are using the Marlboro logo in Bahrain.

I believe they are only using the logo in the (non-televised) free practice sessions. As I understand it tobacco logos are no longer allowed on televised sporting events in Europe. In France such logos also have to be removed (digitally or whatever) from published photos etc.

Yeah, that was initial thought too, Jonathan. But I know free practice sessions are televised in some European countries, so we'll see what'll happen tomorrow in the qualifying session.

lol that's what it seems like! I am not a smoker by any means (I hate it), but I even think that the logos should be allowed on the cars. Looking at a Ferrari doesn't make me want to smoke.

I started a thread like this a while back arguing over the Marlboro branding of the cars. From what I understand...

-no tobacco markings on any cars during qualifying and the race for all the races
-no tobacco markings on any cars in any countries that have banned tobacoo advertising
-tobacco markings allowed during testing/practice in countries where tobacco advertising is not banned

They are definitely running with Marlboro livery for qualifying sessions on TV. :)
