That pic of the stage with the lights is awesome!

Anyone ever build an amp? I'm thinking of buying an 18watt Marshall kit to build and buying a combo to go with it.

If you are interested in building one, check out www.gdsamps.com for the kits, and www.swansoncabinets.com for cabs and speakers.

I priced out how I'd want everything and it'd be around $1400. However, for an amp that I build, it's cheaper than a Marshall 18watt and I might be able to sell it on eBay for more money than I spend on it.

The 18 watt Marshalls sound great. I currently have been interested after listening to an amp built by Ayder based on a JCM45. The amps sound amazing. Tony from Godsmack has purchased serial # 1 and 2. Building an 18 watt will be much cheaper than purchasing one. I can get you a new 18 watt head and cabinet from Marshall but cast will be a little more than $1400.

That looks awesome! Yeah, the main reason why I want one is not only because they sound incredible, but because I really want to start building amps.

Mojo Music Supply sells kits for a little cheaper than GDS, but it isn't as beginner. Their kit doesn't walk you through as much as the GDS does. So maybe after the 18watt I'd build a Fender Tweed from Mojo.

By the way, this is the tolex and cloth combination I think I would do. Brown Western tolex with brown basketweave grillcloth. Something totally different. I'd do a 2x12 combo with a valance on the front like VOX AC/30s and 1962 Bluesbreakers.

Part of my 3600 piece musician pick collection. Anyone have any others? Metallica picks in the center along with ACDC, Eric Clapton, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, Rush, Steve Vai, Steve Morse, Dimebag Darrell, Santana, Jeff Buckley, Paul McCartney, Rob Zombie, Godsmack etc. I am missing Stevie Ray from my collection, anyone have an extra to sell?

I have been interested in building and designing an amp to market (though, have never marketed anything). If you mean just build a kit then I suspect teh difficulty would be dependent of how much you know about tube circuts and how much testing equipment you have. If you don't know a lot about tube circuts, by building your kit you can become very knowlegable.

I started by fixing old broken tube amps. You wind up making or finding the schematic and sometimes basically rebuilding all the components. Kind of like a kit but you have to source all the parts yourself.

I would think that building a kit would be a great start toward the path of modifying, rebuilding, fixing and designing tube amps.
If you build one, post some pictures as you go!

Awesome collection! I attached my small collection, not much, but I'm working on it. Mainly Zakk Wylde, John JD Deservio, and Nick Catanese. Billy Gibbons, James McDonough (when he was with Megadeth), Dave Mustaine, Brad Paisley (generic Ernie Ball pick), Dimebag, Brand New Sin, and Mark Tremonti (Creed pick, but he gave it to me at a VIP party during Alter Bridge).

Yeah, I don't know much and don't have much. All I have is a soldering iron, and I'd get a voltmeter if I did this. If I do build it, my plans are to start it over summer. Though I've had to put off the project before and I might need to put it off again.

Not a great deal but the market is strong if they are correct. Bursts will always bring big money. You can always check rumbleseatmusic.com or maverick-music.com to see what's going on in the megabuck guitar market. Phil from Maverick currently has all 3 of Gary Moore's 50's Les Pauls including the famous Peter Green/Gary Moore burst and the price is way above the ebay piece.

    ES-225T (thinline)

My dad bought it for me in 1964, it was my second guitar, costing $150, iirc.
I am a hamfisted player, and the original 'floating' bridge would not stay put, so I lamely replaced it with a Melita. Hardly original but way more functional/adjustable.
The tuners were the plastic 'meltaway' type. I replaced them about 15 years ago with Grover 'butterbeans'. A great improvement, but it did require new holes in the back of the headstock. FWIW, I saved the originals.
The pickup (this is probably what caught your eye) was originally a P-90. The alnico magnet had gotten so weak (I'm guessing) that it would not produce any real volume, so for grins I replaced it with that hideous high-output humbucker currently installed. Sounds like ca-ca, and I'll be buying a new P-90 for it when I get a chance.
I think the tailpiece is original!

I'm surprised the Gibson caught attention, and not the '66 Super.
    Thanks for the compliment, Pap!

Are there any electric slide players here?

I noticed the Super and it looks unbelieveably clean. The PU just threw me on the 225.
