Hi guys and gals after a long time of saving I'm finally ready to purchase my first ferrari. I'm looking at an 03 red tan Daytona seats 2800 miles manual and challange grilles and modular wheels. Two owner car with no service done. Asking price is 149,900 Is this a fair price and what else should I do before taking the plunge thanks in advance Rob
That car should have had at least 3 annual services by now.... you might want to find out why it hasn't. I don't know the technical dangers of what can happen when it hasn't been serviced but it seems odd. For your info I recently bought a 360 with a full up to date service, the previous owner having spent about 20,000 euros at the dealer and I still have the odd problem with the car. I would hate to have one that has never been to a dealer in it's life.
You ll hear many conflicting bits of input on the car and service. I ve had 2 already. I think the price sounds fair and diagree with the service reply. I just look around and see all the cars in the world with belts with 100K miles plus and never needed one , coupled with the friends that have 10 years on their F-cars with NO ISSUES( yeah I know the mechanics of failure). Many beieve it was a dealer imposed pratice to mitigate risk on cars before digital odometers ( wink wink). I prefer cars that were never taken apart. I hope I helped in some way with your decision. A zillion folks will now flame me and suggest you need new pistons, crank, & valves on the world best car every 200 miles because its in print somewhere. I agree with the basic services beyond the belts however, oil...ect 2800 is low miles and likley explains the limited service IMO. belts should be changed every 3 years and the car should have had 2 annuals done prior to this, i agree with Mark. Lack of service history will make a massive diff to sale/purchase price and you won't be able to extend manuf. wrrnty. Walk away
Good. To come here and say you have never heard of a Ferrari breaking a timing belt is admitting extreme ignorance of the subject. A simple search here alone would show that.
Good price. The 2003 360 Modena coupe 6 speed I traded in for my 2006 Ferrari had 5200 miles with all service, including belts oil and they are asking $154,900. I am told that ferrari used to recommend belt changes at 5 years and then went back to 3 years. Most of my friends do 4 years or 5 depending on driving factors. The belt change which is due will be about $4500 plus oil at $450. I do not know the cost of "all" fluid changes. which is due at 5000 miles and maybe three years (someone on the forum will know). I have been told this is $2500. So the total boys and girls is just under $7500 assuming they do not find anything else. Good luck on what ever you do. Oh one last point those modular wheels are about $3800 to $4200 (front or back) and if damaged must be replaced. They cannot be fixed. I was told by the dealer i bought my 2003 360 from to be careful because it does happen. Hit a hard bump and you must replace it. I never had any trouble. lee
Its kind of funny you made that Dodge statement. My dodge is 30 years old, makes more power, faster and sits longer than most F cars and still has the same belt !!!. I would bet it by gates much like my Ferarri. Its also valued at 2X any Modena and no cause for alarm for value decline or valve damage..Ill take your advice.TY.... While all true, i was only forcing him to think for himself and not fall into the service game. its allot less important than most advertise. Service to a degree is good.
Mike sorry to disagree but I would not push a belt past 5 years. i did mine at 3 1/2 years. Too your point it still looked good, no wear or fatique cuts. It is easy on the 360 to look at the belts if one knows what to look for. The issue is does someone want to take a chance and blow up your engine and then spend $75,000 to fix it. Not prudent. Just one mans opinion. Maybe I am skidish since i had a chain break on a car years ago at 62,000 miles. The owners manual recomended the chain be replaced at 60,000. i did not do it and it was a horrible sound when it let go. The motor was trash! Lee
I agree with your comments to a degree. The car in question is 2003 with virtually no miles. Some judgement required. I still have my opinion, but respect your points.
