hey everyone, i'm new to this forum and was hoping this place would be a good starting point to find out about the local scene.

was just wondering if anyone could help me with the existing headcount/ approx price range of:

    1) Testas, 512 TR/M
    2) 348s
    3) 355s

any comments about drivability and other technical issues concerning this group?

Am I right to say that the modenas on our roads are all paddle shift?

    cheers!

you talking to me? are you talking to me? ask robert deniro go shoot you then you know... haha!

anyway if i had the choice and money was no issue to me anymore, i would have kept the 355 as well. so i could drive either one depending on my mood. its a beautiful car and still a pleasure to drive. y'know, sometimes you just feel like having wonton mee and somedays chicken rice. completely different dish, but both just as enjoyable!

so i have heard! am currently eyeing the GT3 but may be tempted to do the RS. however, not sure i can live with either bright orange or lurid green. having said that, a lot of brothers here already give me grief over my speed yellow car. there's just no pleasing some..

RS is the old school one, 993 model.....

Get the black ones with orange stripes. Not bad. First deliveries are here in California for the RS in a few weeks. The cars are on land and should be getting PDIed.
Talking to my track buddies and shops here, the general feel is that the 997 Gt3 is greatly improved. Better engine, better reponse from engine and body.
I am pretty sure I will get one if I move back to Cali

Dont let others influence your color choice. As long as you are happy, its your ride, your dough and your color...:)

-3 POTENTIALLY asking for trouble :( but that's of course your opinion speaking from your personal view which everyone's entitled to. Afterall, this is a forum ;)

I wouldn't argue that the EVO9 or Sti performs better in everywhere & offers more thrill & reliability than any of those you mentioned & I've never driven or owned all of them, as a matter of fact I'm waiting for the Evo X to hit our shores & I'd like to sample it too.

We who buy old school Italian or German sports cars because the brand & shape lived in our hearts & of course we can't quite afford the new one. Perhaps even if we can afford the new one, we'd like to sample the older one to understand it's traits before draining money on the newer one. Like what Isk says "even when we lose, we lose it with style" Yeah, I think old Porsches, Alfas, 70s CSLs, SLs, Mustangs, Cobras, MGs or even Mondials has some style & evokes some aura about them that only the owner will feel. Afterall, good design transcends over time. How many Korean/Japanese design house has done well enough to have timeless design or survived for decades? Not that the western houses did all well enough to have a book dedicated to "Worst cars of all time" to them.

I'm one good eg. Jumped right into 348, then old 911 then Testa then Gallardo while my heart still long for an open top, manualbox, non power steering "junk". So what if I'm ostracised in glamour events & that only folks from "lower caste" enjoy my company, I own every inch of the metal with my hard earned money, drive the gas out, feel the muscle twitch when I change my own blown tyre, get my hands dirty & smell like petrol kiosk attendant everytime I reached office. Well, those are definitely not comforting but it's all part of the experience in driving or riding.

But then again I'm biased ;) my heart's been colonised by Western makes. Maybe a hundred years later we'll be driving a "Kwai Ma Pao Che" made in ROC, grabs 10 worldchampionships in F1, all in Red Army colors :D with a big star on the bonnet.

Well I am sick of certain things on this site too .. I thought it was a place for discusion .. not a mutual admiration site where people take great chunks of space to plan private parties and play follow the leader.. Frankly, why can't you circulate your private messages privately ?

At the end of the day for talk to be meaningful there has to be intellectual honesty as well.

I am not one to use expletives nor to reject someone else's views without rhyme nor reason. I have always explained precisely why I have said something and furnished grounds of support.

I see that even you can't disagree about the 348s and Mondials. And that's the point. Some here are unhappy with the truth and that is really the point.

Its always easy to jump on the welcoming wagon and say "let's not fight let's not quarrrel" esp when one can't really really argue with the logic or truth of what has been said.

I recall when the topic was warm up. Pple were writing line after line about not stressing the new engine, breaking in a new car, etc. It was all hunky dory but not entirely correct was it ?

The Ferrari manual says that no warm up is needed. Further, many are perhaps not aware that new cars are driven hard by the factory prior to delivery. After this, "breaking in" is clearly an overkill of the ignorant. You may notice that your new Ferrari engine is not exactly delivered with tissue wrapping as well.

I think you have to be careful in accusing people of being quarrelsome - by doing so you are yourself creating or perpetuating that situation. Let's not be hypocritical. Your postings are not always gentle as well.

    My dear SF,

That's the problem - a 348 is not old schooled - its just old.

Do the black one with orange bits, I posted a pic of it before. I would love the kermit but friend's getting it delivered soon but frankly, many people have said it's probably not worth the premium for what the RS is over the now GT3 & unless you're a track addict or love hardcore, GT3's more than enough, ask Raymond next week. Autoconcept has the black/orange RS coming in soon.

Dear CT, what's the diff? IMO, it's not old enough to classify as a classic & it does have some electronics, EFI etc. which is a vast improvement over mechanical injection etc. What's the tech now? direct injection?

Many 348 owners have done very well on track & don't forget that the Challenge series started with the 348.

If you look @ it, the 360 is beginning to look old too especially when a 430 is parked next to it. Race driver/s also complain that the 360Challenge car (vastly improved over street & CS) is a twitchy car @ it's peak which snaps as well. The thing is we buy the Mondial, 348, 355s etc not to race but to enjoy the sound, style, brand & for good value. Maybe I haven't drove fast enough in them! Tell me how many of you owners lost so much money on those old Fcars that you'd swear not to touch it again?

911 is a strange car that refuses to die. The engineers just keep improving it from chassis, suspension, aircon, rustproofing to the aircooled engine that was @ it's best in 993 when they decided that watercool is needed to improve farther.

No decades lasting eastern designs ?

I believe these are 2 of the most admired and acknowledged Japanese cars of all time - if you know, one is actually a Bond Car. Some of the "western" cars are as you know designed by Japanses designers such as the E46.

Yes, to some the 360 is an aging design. Why should I disagree with that ? I have no vanity and will not start being upset if people tell me my car looks old - but you and some others would .. and that is it isn't it ? many can't stomach any negative comments at all and see every comment as a personal attack :) when it was just an honest view.
