World's Largest Yacht: 525' Platinum (Dubai) The Platinum Project was originally commissioned in 1996 by Prince Jefri Bolkiah, the younger brother to the Sultan of Brunei. Following the prince's bankruptcy, the yacht was sold to Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai. Launched in April of 2005, Platinum was originally a collaboration between the Lürssen and Blohm & Voss yards. At 525 feet (160m), Platinum is undisputably the world’s largest luxury yacht. There is some speculation regarding the current name of “Platinum”. The yacht may be renamed “Golden Star”. However, there is no speculation about the price tag, EXPENSIVE! Some estimates exceed $300 million. Currently, Platinum is moored at the Jebel Ali Docks in Dubai. Platinum is a well-conceived yacht, combining the massive engineering experience of both Lurssen and Blohm & Voss. Among the many features to be expected on a yacht of this enormity, Platinum will have a heli-pad on the bow and on the upper aft-deck, with dedicated observation rooms for each. Platinum is projected to be powered by four (4) diesel engines, each packing in excess of 9000 horsepower. Suffice to say, this might be the first yacht that needs an onboard crude-oil refinery . Actually, with the exception of owners who will absolutely not give their yachts up for chartering, most owners tend to hand over their ships to charter companies. This brings in some extra money, but usually not enough to cover the operation costs of owning such yachts, which are apparently 10% of boat's value, ANNUALLY. So, a $100,000,000 yacht will require $10,000,000 to run in a given year, including docking, storage, maintenance, fuel, on-board staff, food, and much more. Insane, huh?

When you're at this level, you truly have more money than you know what to do with or could ever spend in 10 generations. The annual operating costs come out of petty cash On a darker note....imagine the security you would need. There still be pirates out on the high seas (in some areas).
Funny you should mention.....It is my understanding that several large yacht owners have hired groups of retired Navy Seals. Bring on Ye Ol' Pirates!
There are recently pics of it showing it completed with the engines running. I think the design is rather plain and the complete white color isn't helping it imo. A blue hull would look nicer imo. Octopus is one of my favorites. I dont' think it looks stunning, looks a bit cruise ship from the front with the overhaning pilot house for easier docking. I like it mainly because of all the toys that go with it and the chopper hanger! Looks-wise, Bennetti's Reverie (sp?) is in my top 5. Looks great, however functionality, not much a fan. Doesn't have many toys aboard and open deck space is minimal. Looks like the owner just prefers to stay in the ship instead of out in the sun on a chair or in the water with a bunch of toys.
I guess even chartering one of these yachts for a week would cost more than most people earn in a lifetime. Shame - doubt I'll ever get to experience one... I was killing time earlier today whilst waiting for a meeting and flicking through a few magazines, found an article on Eddie Jordan's new yacht in Boat International - a Sunseeker 37m named Snapper - a tiddler in comparison to the other yachts in this thread, but bloody nice to mere mortals like myself. Available to charter at Euro 100,000 per week: http://www.navis-yacht-charter.com/The_Snapper_Sunseeker_charter I'm a big Sunseeker fan myself - for those not familiar with the brand, they provided the boats for the past few Bond movies.

Does Donald Trump still have the Nabila? It was originally commissioned by Adnan Koshogi, I think, and named after his oldest daughter. Not so big as the monsters above, but I always thought it had a great sense of style. Maybe too much style to be wasted on the Donald?
I've posted this elsewhere on the site, but has anyone else seen this - MY Barchetta. Surely owned by a Ferrari fan: http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=244716 I also like the irony that 'barchetta' means 'small boat'
Although she is only a little more than half the size of The Octopus, Attessa, to me, is the most beautiful. I always enjoy it when she moors here in Marina Del Rey. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not sure how current this is, but apparently from AK to Trump to some Saudi prince... http://www.twomoonbay.co.uk/yachts/Kingdom%20%20Nabilia.htm ...always thought it was a neat-looking yacht, way ahead of its time.
That used to be Aviva. Her interior caught on fire and burned a good majority of it. Nice to see it saved and turned into a prettier (imo) yacht.
I agree, though based purely on looks, Wally's sail boats are even more stunning than the Wallypower 118...
Geeeeeeeeez HUGE does not = beautiful. Just because something is the biggest or the most most expensive does not mean its the best nor does it have anything to do with beauty. I realize this may be a real stretch for lots of Ferrari guys to get. Here is a truely beautiful yacht. Very top quality, old world craftsmanship in the woodworking that is an art form all but dead. This yacht would take you around the world in comfort and style. Hinckley Sou'wester 70' Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
