    The new Audi R8 has white LED lights on the engine compartment. Yes, it's just for flash, but the Ferrari already has glass over the engine and people show their engines off in the other models all the time.

    An aftermarket installation of a pair of small LEDs would be a neat addition to a 360 or 430. Just throwing that out there for our sponsors to take advantage of developing and offering. Red LEDs would look cool at night.

    You could probably do it yourself for less than 10$.

    Get some wiring, a switch, and a bunch of LED's.

    You can make it looks extremely clean if you spent a little more cash. Get a small piece of sturdy wire or whatever to mount the LED's on, cover them with a piece of paper or something like a clear wrap so that the lights are soft-diffused over the engine.

    Just wire is through the cabin right into your glovebox or something, hook it up to a switch. Voila, done.

    I did this to make puddle lights for the X5. I had a bunch of hangers (clothes hangers) that I used to wrap the LED's around. Then they were powered by a 9v battery.

    It was my project for physics class, I was working on them to get hooked up to my headlights, and to fade in and out versus on vs. off.

    The only problem I can see would be developing a kit that doesn't have the LED's glaring into your rearview. Anyone know if you can turn on the R8's lights when it's in motion?

    Point them back at the engine from the bulkhead, add a cone as necessary to block the direct light from the rearview mirrors. Bam!

    Could have them linked to the throttle to change color or brightness as the revvs goes up.

    I'd think they'd jump at the chance to charge $1,200 for the option and .60 each for the lights and components! ;)

    Like the sequential shift LED's in the steering wheel of the Enzo and the new 599 GTB. HOT.

    Cicero will start a thread asking if anyone is in the LED business;
    BPU699 will start a thread about high LED prices;
    Matteo will say he's getting some put in his 308; and
    Urotrash will start a thread about how he's thinking about buying some LEDs and some he's tested, but won't do it;

    :D ;) :D

    You can get LED's from superleds.com or something.
    LED's are relatively cheap.
    Wouldn't the 308 actually be in a model specific forum? :)

    I was smirking reading this thread.

    Ironically we started work on a product last summer that does exactly that. Its intended for the motorcycle market but I guess if some F-owner wants to buy it I won't tell him I won't take his money :)

    Dunno if it's patentable though... another gent on this site had a similar idea (although I think his product will do tricks than mine) and there have been "rotating color" LED's for a while, just nothing so far tied into RPM until our deal-io.

    Heheh small world!

    don't forget the coffee can muffler, rear wing, ground effects and of course the booming bass and you'll have the coolest car with the FNF crowd.
