    Hi 512 world.

I am an '04 F360 owner with an F430 on the way... plotting my next move. I want to add a 365/512BB. Classic-must have. I thought I would come over to your world and ask your opinion about this 84 512Bi at Sport Auto in NC. Only 6,500 KM, looks absolutely mint. A show winner. I know we all like to think our cars are worth $X, I know I do. Great for you guys prices are going up. But... really?

This guy is very reputable, but $175K? I am surprised... maybe pay around $140K this car. I saw a 512 TR-style with 2,200 miles recently sell for $140K which I think is supremely fair. I know this price is WAY north of market, but what do you think? Do you think the market is going here? Take care, John

Check out the thread in this section by msdesignltd: "my old car is up again", and you will have a better idea as to the quality of this BBi. I've seen it, it's all it is described to be.

I think I saw a speck of dirt behind the left rear wheel at the 2006 Scarsdale concours. That brings the price down to $172K easy....

The Boxer market is definitely going up, but there is a lot of variability in pricing. The bid-ask spread can be wide, quality varies, and even though the cars are rare, there are enough of them to create a minimarket. Unlike, say, a 288. Very, very few and all kept very, very well.

Steve Barney at Sport Auto has an excellent reputation.

No doubt the car is as described. What do you think of the price vs. market? I guess if it is a 1 of a kind, then they can ask this price. I don't know??

For a 1 of a kind, after being used to 360/430 numbers, I would consider paying this.

I agree that that boxer is in incredible condition and no offense intended. I would pay top dollar IF it did not have the conversion DOT lamps (personal preference) and if the car was 100% original meaning black engine lid boxes and rear spoiler. The paint changes arent a big issue but it aint original anymore but it can be returned to correct, the DOT thing isnt so easy to get around. Im my opinion in todays market $175K should get a museum piece. So, is this the worlds best boxer as advertised? Probably not, its a very nice low mile example with some personal touches and DOT lamps.

It looks nice, but $175 is high. It will be interesting to see what it sales for.

The best 512BBi I have ever seen is the all Black BBi owned by Mr. Risi that has been at FOH for a very long time, it looks absolutely perfect, anyone has pictures?

Both the current and immediately previous owners are here on FerrariChat. With a little judicious searching, you could even find out how much the current owner paid for it.

Is it worth it? No idea, sorry.

The other one on their inventory doesn't look too shabby either. $100,000 makes it more interesting ?

Check back in the archives and I think you'll find were msdesignltd found the engine lid and spoiler color to be factory.
I think Paul is a bit hyper sensitive about the DOT/EPA conversion on a Boxer.
It is part of the history of a USA Boxer and has no negative impact on concourse judging.
Just one of the quarks that makes these cars interesting.
It wouldn't take long to get to the asking price trying to take a nice Boxer up to this apparent trophy level.

Yes im hyper, I dont think it adds to the beauty of the car therefore price is effected, again personal taste.

As for the lids and spoiler, the lids are a different shade of red than the car so only paper work from enzo would make me a believer. I say non-original. As for the cost of making a car a trophy winner I agree, big dollars.

I just thought of another thing regarding the cost of bringing a car up to a high standard. I guess it depends on the quality of the car you own in the first place. If you paid $80K (guessing) for your boxer, would it take you $90K to make it perfect?

When I got the car it had 1700 miles on it, the monochrome Paint was on.
According to gerald Rousch, He witnessed Boxers at the factory being delivered this way.I dont know about the pics that show any color irregularity on your screen , but all the parts match perfectly.

I remember selling my last boxer for $190,000.00 in 89'
Now those were the days that money was money!

That particular car is driving the whole Boxer Market by itself......

You can buy another anywhere in the world for less, I doubt Mr. Risi's is for sale...Display Only ...

Is this the finest Boxer example in the world?
I wonder why Woody flipped it so fast....that's a troubling question to me.....

And as usual everybody that fingerprints on it wants a Home Run with the next deal.......

It jumped $25K for fixing the goopy sealant at the windshield??? Oh, please.......

I prefer the carbed ones myself, if you want an antique go all the way to the Stone Age!!!! LOL!

Colored air boxes could indeed be OEM, painted spoiler? Me thinks not...

Michaels car is a great Boxer no doubt, best in the World is a big statement, my personal preference is the carbureted BBs, the last of the old school Ferraris and last carbed Ferrari 12 cylinders.

For a BBi Symbolic here in Vegas has or had a 300 mile BBi in there showroom, that car is factory new a time capsule, I would argue its the best BBi but never has been showed at events so no awards but IMO that car could bring north of $200k if he would sell it.

When a little bit of patience and some good due diligence would still yield a nice Boxer for under $100K I would not even look once at this car.

If you could buy a Boxer for that I think you would be hard pressed to throw another $80K at it to make it 100% perfect. And frankly.....I would not want such a car. Give me something that is 90% and I'll drive it.

There was only one person for this car when it was for sale last time for big bucks.....and it took a long time IIRC for that one person come to the market......is another person like that out there at this price ?

This car is creating a "Boxer Bubble" all on it's own.

My car had front cooling ducts and improved seats from new, does that make it correct? No it doesnt. Right from new this stuff was done, back in 82 when I was a goofy little kid (now im a goofy big kid) but it aint the way it rolled off the line. So, if the spoiler and covers were requested to be painted from the first owner and had the dealer paint them prior to taking delivery I can see how someone (even the conversion places) might think its correct. Without paper work it cant be proved and I was just making a point that is valid.

Splitting a few hairs for a moment here, I find it funny that a DOT converted car is accepted as correct by judges because its an aftermarket conversion they approve of, the car never came that way new. If pinninfarina converted a daytona coupe to a spider it's considered a "cloud" at concours events. Why is that? If the car was never intended to come to north america right from enzo's mouth and had to be extensively modified to do so why is this overlooked and accepted? 2 sets of rules I guess. I have to say the speedo overlay almost made me barf, the rest of the car looks great though.

FYI, I personally saw a photograph of a silver BB512i at the factory with painted air boxes and rear spoiler...it was taken in the early 80s when Gerald Roush went to pick up some Boxers they were importing to the USA...back in those days a well healed buyer could get their Ferrari built anyway they wanted it...

I have seen that car in the Vegas showroom and to me by the condition of it it looks like more than 300 miles. It was nice but IMO not a 300 mile car. The leather had dirt in the grain and it just looked driven more than 300 miles.

BTW, IMO the injected Boxers are the most advanced and nicest to have if possible:) I like the way the look, perform,no need to tinker with carbs etc..

You know, it occured to me that for this kind of money there are probably a lot of collectable Ferrari alternatives that are not pushing the envelope for the model's pricing. I would suggest looking into a V-12 front engined model for that kind of money.

Nice car that one, but come on. It's going to be a long time before that price is the norm for any 512.
