So yesterday and today I have been hearing about the people "trapped" or "held hostage" on the JetBlue planes at JFK. Some planes were grounded for more than 10 hours. Some passengers had the audacity to auctually continously complain and ***** and moan over something completley out of ANYONES control. Ok yes you were inconvenienced and had to sit for a very long time. But you know what, crying about it is not gonna make it any better. Use the situation to get to know someone, take a nap, read a book, do something constructive rather than complain to a flight attendant or the news about how you were being held "captive". I just thank God I wasnt one of those planes or I would have probably punched anyone who complained in the mouth. THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO!!!! NOTHING!!!! GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD!!!!

    Sorry guys, I needed that.

Pfffffffttttt........!!!!!!! The pax were within their right to be angry.....I'd sue....this is happening too much now.

10 hours is insane and the airline knows it.......they are already saying they will give out a free R/T flight as well as refund your airfare as a result. I've squeezed a later flight with an upgrade, a $400 voucher, and a hotel room out of another airline for a lesser issue.......

They could not take off because of the weather......but that didn't prevent airport ground staff from bringing mobile stairs up to the planes and having guides walk everyone back. It may have taken a hour or two to deplane the various stranded aircraft......beats 10 hours inside one me thinks. I am a frequent flier and believe that they have to adopt emergency procedures for these kinds of cases. The airline is less to blame than the airport authority IMHO as it is really their fault.

The weather is not the airlines or airports fault.......how they handle it is.

The airlines treat their customers like crap. People should complain, or better yet, stop flying and drive these guys into bankruptcy.

To put this in perspective- I am involved in doing animal research. If we treated our animals they way airlines treat us, I'd be in jail.

    F--- the airlines.

It's not the inability to take off, it's how the ground delay is managed. The airline was trying to avoid the headache of deplaning the aircraft. The gates were probably full with aircraft and the aircraft that had been boarded but couldn't take off were left in limbo. You can deal with that by deplaning through airstairs and busing the passengers back to the terminal or rotating full with empty aircraft and deplaning through the terminal gates. They actually ended up sending buses out, but they waited too long.

A few months ago I was sitting on a plane, flying from somewhere to my home city. We sat on the plane for close to 2 hours. It was absolutely horrible. So 10 hours must of been a nightmare!

And yes it was so horrible I do not even remember where it was! that part of my memory must be blocked cause I really have no idea!

You are out of your mind, dude. We all appreciate the need for a good rant sometimes, but come on... Have you ever sat in a plane at the gate or on the tarmac for 10 hours? It's torture. They airlines should get ROYALLY SUED for this.

I truly, honestly, can't believe I am agreeing with "Kds" on ANYTHING (I'm nearly choking on it, frankly), but he's right in his post above. This was all about MONEY, and airlines have been treating their passengers worse and worse over the years. You're no longer a human being when you fly, you're ballast for a plane. You're a g*ddamn seat filler. That's it.

No, they can't control the weather. But after an hour or two, you pull up a damn bus, offload the freaking passengers and put them in a lounge in the airport and give them a coke and a smile (and maybe more than pretzels). For god's sake...

    I'm with you on this.

But you know what comes next after deplaning: OH, there was no seats in the terminal (I'm assuming it's full), the floor was too hard, it's too hot/cold, blahblahblahblah. Can't please anyone.

I would've jumped out of the plane after five hours, I don't know how they did it.

    Patrick,

    Rant all you want.......

    I disagree with you.

Why do you think it was out of their control? It wasn't...... The pilot contacts their airlines center and asks for guidance. Unfortunately, it appears they told him / her to sit and made no provision at a gate. The pilot heeded the direction. He has a choice as PIC, though it could cost him his job.

I recall a pilot recently pulled his plane to a gate and de-planed passengers when he considered the direction from his center as improper. That's what should have been done here.

Poor management decision that should and could have been overridden by the pilot.

Recognize that some passengers will have dietary / medication / health issues that must be put above profits.

JetBlue recognized they made a mistake and have apologized. I think you should recognize it as well.......

Oh, and watch who you think you can punch. Besides being a federal offence, you might not like the reaction.

I don't know the politics of this situation but obviously the airline felt it better to let the passengers suffer rather then letting them deplane. Jet Blue uses the portable stairs all the time at airports so this isn't anything new. I think that passengers being held hostage for 10 hours have a right to be pissed.

I saw an article on airline-sponsored research into "standing flights" - basically instead of a seat you 'rest' by leaning on a sort of bicycle seat thingie with a shoulder brace/guard like a rollercoaster down in front of you. They can then DOUBLE the amount of people on one plane. They keep saying they won't do this, but come on... they're hurting so bad right now I can see it on the wall.

The only people happy about that are bean counters and terrorists.

I was on a plane flying home once and we got delayed an hour in the air and then ended up sitting for two hours on the groud at a different airport while the weather cleared at the home airport. That was just miserable so it must have been horrible for ten hours.

I don't know how much you've flown Patrick but you get some miles under your belt like some of us and you would have been incensed too. I absolutely would not have put up with it. I can see two hours, after that, pull back to the gate or get a bus, but I want off that friggin' plane. I would have called 911 and said I was being held against my will. Its utter bulls*it and I'm all in favor of the Passenger Bill of Rights.

No excuse, it was a real screw up. I would be pissed. The airlines craps all over the passengers all the time. I think the service is poor already without getting stranded for 10 hours. That's a long time with peanuts if they got any. I think people are afraid to raise too much hell because they will look like a terrorist and the homeland security people will send them to Siberia.

I should have been more clear. I was angry about the fact that passengers were trying to blame flight attendants and pilots. The situation was out of their control. As for airport management, well now they are the ones people can rip a new *******.

I have sat on a runway for 4 hours then took a 6 hour flight. It wasnt too bad, I didnt think it was the end of the world. Now that I am calm, 10 hours is a bit excessive but *****ing and moaning is just not gonna make it go by any faster.

What's worse, pissing and moaning about being stuck in a plane for 10 hours on the ground, or pissing and moaning about people pissing and moaning about being stuck in a plane for 10 hours on the ground?

Thats right mate. When I was 10yrs old in 1990, my brother and I and my Mum were all flying to Greece for a holiday. The plane landed in Cairo cause of bad weather. They made us stay on the plane for 5 hours before they flew again. I did not mind, as we were kids playing around and Singapore Airlines gave us all this kiddy stuff to do. I still remember heaps of people getting upset because of this as they were being quite vocal towards airplane hostess's. But really..................STFU!! :D:D No amount of whinging will make them take off again. Have to wait.........sh*t happens. Get over it. :D:D

Id do the same. Id be busting the airline crew balls to get me out of that small seat and shutle me back to the terminal.
Even if they are not responsible, they are the one who can get in touch with airport management...

I got stuck at Laguardia on the runway for 3 hours due to bad weather , hopefully i was with a friend , but its the feeling that you are there sitting doing **** that is the worst.
