How much information can the dealer get about a car on order?

    If someone orders a new ferrari, how long until the dealer gets information on the car? Would they know if the car was completed, if it was shipped yet, if it was in port? Is there a way they can access this information.

    In theory yes,in real life they have no idea (at least here in US).
    Cars just show up in the most unexpected time frame ,sometimes incredibly quick,sometimes agonizingly late.

    My experience is that they have a computer site tie in and can track a car through the order and build process. They know when the order goes in for sure and when it starts to build and when it's complete and when it ships and when it hits NY. It is a little bit of guess of when it gets here from NY but depends on whose car is on truck and they can get within a few days on this too.

    So they really can track the car to some extent and tell you whats going on. Why is it that some dealers are so difficult to release this information and others are difficult.

    I don't know but when I call about my order they put me on hold and give me the status of the car. Sometimes they may call me back.

    They have a system called MODIS that keeps track of the progress of every car currently ordered, from order allocation, acceptance, build, waiting at port, received at FNA, en-route to dealer etc.
