    You're late to the party.

Toyota has been racing and winning in the NASCAR Truck Series for a couple years now.

Cheating in NASCAR is nothing new, I even remember seeing a book about it at Bobby Archer's Motor sports for sale describing the ways it's been done & not to get caught. This is going to be a stumbling point for Toyota stepping into NASCAR NEXTEL series, I really hope they take the championship after all this crap is over.

Huh? You need a great car in F1 for any shot.

F1 teams do try to bend the rules. When you have a lot of money and points on the line, it is just human nature to try to get any advantage you can.

I would rather see a mud bog race.

When Ferrari starts making trucks...adios amigos

In the US, the NASCAR truck series draws more viewers than F1.

NASCAR may not be your cup of tea, but denigrating it and refering to its fans as rednecks and other pejoratives is offensive to those who do follow it. There are plenty of people who think F1 fans are effete snobs, there is no need to reinforce that stereotype.

I know a young driver that won a Semi-pro Formula series who ventured into Craftsman Trucks. This person has more driving talent than anyone I personnally know.
This is a "Spec " series.
He left it shortly there after with only average results.
He did not like the level of the competition. IE he could not win.
The other drivers were too fierce, unfair, whatever. Call it what you will.
Assuming road race drivers are somehow superior in ability is false.

My posts are mostly in jest. I will try to be more serious in this post.

I do not question the ability or talent of truck drivers. To me, racing and truck are oxymorons. Every truck I have ever driven or owned has been top heavy and ponderous in turns at best.

MY passion is sports cars. Not trucks.

MY passion is Ferrari because they have been more true to sports car racing than any other marque IMHO. Since 1950 they have raced in Formula 1, never missing a year. No other carmaker can make that claim. Some of the technology and character of the race cars are incorporated into the cars the public can buy. Other marques do some racing, but IMHO, Ferrari does it the best and is truest to the sport. Thus, I choose to support them.

It is a free country. You can support NASCAR and Truck racing. What NASCAR has to do with Ferraris is hard to fathom. NASCAR may be auto racing, but it is not "sports car" racing as I understand the term. A Chevrolet Monte Carlo is not a "sports car" ; a Corvette is. I find it ironic that there are some on a Ferrari Chat that support NASCAR.

We have a right to disagree, but I have a right to express my opinion too.

Cheating in NASCAR is not good for the sport. Cheating in F-1 is not good for the sport. Only by speaking out and exposing corrupt behavior can we hope to see some improvement. It is a never ending battle as boys will be boys.

Ferraris and sports cars are an amusement, a distraction from the real nitty gritty of life. It is not life and death; it is a sport. It really doesn't matter who wins a car race or a championship. It matters whether a factory closes down or someone you know has a terminal disease.

So I say Ferraris, racing and Ferrari Chat are an amusement. Poking fun at ourselves and each is is healthy. I think taking an amusement TOO seriously is not healthy.

I apologize for hurting any one's feelings. It is meant in fun. Have a great day.

    Ciao

Actually, the trucks and the Nextel cup cars are virtually identical under the sheet metal.

While I am not necessarily a NASCAR fan, my interest has been piqued by Montoya's move to the series. As a result, I have been educating myself about that form of racing as much as I can. I am sure that the same is true for many others in this forum. What I appreciate about that series is the closeness of the racing, on any given GP weekend the question is Alonso or Kimi, in NASCAR there may be 20 different drivers who can win. To me that makes for excitement.

I liken it to the first time I went to a 1 mile oval. I have always been a fan of road-racing, I couldn't care less about ovals, especially one-milers, and I used to hate watching the bullrings on tv back in the days of CART. Then I went to NHIS for the inaugral IndyCar race and became hooked. I would rather watch a 1-mile oval live than go to most road races, the entire track is in view, the racing fast and furious and there are a million lead changes. Had I been more close minded about it, I would never have learned to appreciate how exciting an oval track can be. It is a different form of racing, requiring different skill sets than road racing, but it is enjoyable in its own right.

Talk of cheating, 'stock' cars, and bending/breaking the rules makes me think we should resurrect Can-Am (FIA Group 7) racing. Two seats and bodywork enclosing the wheels...and that's about it for regulations. It'd be interesting to see what they'd cook up these days in terms of cars, and there wouldn't be much in the way of cheating controversy!

This is what I thought I heard him say.

A plate was taped under the car during testing.
they forgeot to take it off.
    It was unintentional.
    The performance advantage was nil.
The tape started to come off during the race.
    Officials found it.
Took off 50 points and fined $50,000.
He is not familiar with the particular rule involved, but will look it up.

He will "probably" appeal the points and fine.

He sort of blamed it on the crew chief. He didn't know ANYTHING about it.

Question: How can you play the game if you don't know the rules? I would like to think that a man of Roush's caliber and reputation would know the rules, especially after being penalized for an infraction.

I can imagine going to my board or going on TV and saying, "our business was fined but I'll have to check out the rule and get back to you." I believe they could find someone who knew the rules and replace me, don't you?

What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.

Do I hear "Hit the Road Jack" (Ray Charles) playing in the background? since he owns the team, he probably won't fire himself anyway.

If they bring a trunk of cash, NASCAR would probably be let Kia into the show. I recently read an article that said Toyota has more clout in congress because they have factories in MORE states than the "Big 3", which has much of its manufacturing above and below the border.

Of course, but your not contributing anything. Ok, so you don't like NASCAR. We get it. You just don't have to keep posting the same useless posts over and over whenever the discussion of NASCAR or any other series you don't like comes up.

I heard the entire car was 1" too low -- a problem with the shocks.

Which makes me wonder. Will they penalize the whole field and simply re-construct the grid after all the cars fail inspection?

Dont worry about hurting my feelings, venture up to "politics and religion".
    Makes the skin thick.

I am somewhat aware of Ferraris history.

I race(d) Formula Mazdas.Vees and awhile back Atlantics.

Have never been to a NASCAR race but plan to.

In "Racing and Tracking" I believe all forms of motorsports are OK, but have to check the rules; dont want to cheat ;)

I heard on PBS radio (even) that D Waltrip was caught using "rocket fuel" today.
It brings a happy tear to my eye seeing that there is still innovation left in America.

I think there is more to the Waltrip/Toyota story than is being let on.
I have a feeling that after the 500 'something' will happen with Michael in regards to his relationship with Toyota, BWDIK ?

What kind of Ferrari do you own? There is nothing listed on your profile.

Why do NASCAR fans do it doggie style?

So they can BOTH watch the race.
