Story... Back in 1986, my family's Honda Accord had this no on it. When I came back from the States in 97, I bot an Accord and the salesman asked if i wanted any special plate. So told him this number and how it was lucky it was and how it brought back memories. Well, I eventually changed my home phone number fax number, and hp numbers also to end with 7707. Then CNY 99 we met the owner of my first 1986 Honda, and he still had the car. And to my horror... the licence plate was 7077. So been buying the wrong number all these years. So I guess it has stuck.
Must you bring up such painful memories? I have already deleted this from my 'hard disk' long ago haha... Anyway, 1977 was a significant year for me. First, I became a Man Utd supporter after their FA Cup victory over Liverpool. Almost regretted this as the 70s/80s were very painful for me with Liverpool winning almost everything in sight while Utd had to be contented with the occasional FA Cup triumph. Coincidentally, I found out that Des became a 'pool fan after this same game! It's his turn to suffer these days haha... Also, I listen to a lot of music and during the 70s, there was nothing too exciting with radio stations everywhere playing only Top 40 and disco. That is, till punk music came along in 1977. It was a kick up the a*rse for the music scene and I was totally swept up by the raw energy and excitement and to this day, still have a soft spot in my heart for it...
Bang, I think I got more confused Ok I went back to read & got it more or less. Some says our Gallardo has a sequential gearbox simply because unlike norm manual boxes, you can't bypass the 2nd & go to 3rd vice versa. U need to go up & down in sequence. Yap saw those 996 GT3 race cars having that long giant match-stick lever. Now I remembered an Aussie tried to sell me a rebuilt dogteeth gearbox for my 911 project & @ Au$20K, he told me it's a steal....he said even a 996Turbo ain't match for it installed in an old body & lower output engine.
insomniacs rule! no lah, just finished mahjong, watching tv and mucking about still. dealing with emails from the rest of the world. where you?
What was your poison? Sex Pistols, Clash, Generation X? I still listen to punk from time to time. Didnt know anyone in Singapore would listen to punk! There has been a bit of a renaissance and resurgence of punk with bands like Greenday etc...
Very good summary. My race mini has what is known as an SCCR (Straight cut close ratio) Dog (meaning no synchros) box. So you have to match the speeds of the engine and gearbox at the correct revs up and down to ensure instant gear changes - otherwise huge crunch. This is epspecially the case coming back down through the gears. They are impossible to live with on a daily driver or any car that you sit in for more than 30mins once per week, because of the whine. It soulnds like all of teh parts in the box are loose and scraping against each other. Incredibly noisy and the whine as the revs increase is very unnerving at first. Sequential boxes (esp modern ones) allow you to change gears and more importantly, avoid missing gears, much faster than pattern gearboxes. Where you lose in skipping gears, you more than gain in speed through the gears. FF
A SCCR dog box allows much more of the engine power to be transferred to the diff and then to the wheels. So less engine power and a SCCR dog can equate to higher engine power ratings in performance. SCCR Dog boxes are generally very expensive because they are made to withstand huge loads without energy (read power) loss. They also have to be very precisely engineered as the straight cut gearing does not allow for a fudge factor in timing like helical gears. AUD$20k for a SCCR Dog box (if correct spec) would be a bargain but highly suspect and a ***** to live with. FF Edit - Wow, automatic asterisking of even the slightest profanity. I was just referring to a female dog!! Edit 2 - FYI - AUD$20k is about what my new 5-spd SCCR dog box from KAD (and a few extras) is costing me.
All of the above... plus lots more! Back then, I was just among a handful of locals who followed the music. I don't listen very much to today's punk music, still prefer the old school stuff. Anyway, we can talk more about this when we meet...
I'm not at all surprised if the very first unit in SG will be ordered in Bianco Fuji and the number plate'll read 7707......and soon after all the bulls will dissappear and replaced with Trident wielding warriors......
this one's easy. west ham = lotus: great heritage, quintesentially english, always a hit with purists (ie. doing things the right way, the Academy, JohnPlayerSpecials), people don't get offended by them and talk of them fondly, recently ended up a member of the supporting cast (providing engines for other manufacturers = providing joe cole/ferdinand/lampard/carrick to other teams), now under foreign ownership which is seen as slightly dodgy or "not right for the brand" (the egg-shaped head icelander cf with proton).
suffer? suffer? we're the most successful english team last century and this century. we've won more trophies than your lot since the start of this millenium. if you feel nostalgic for that night in barcelona (circa 1999), feel free to pop down the east lancs road where that trophy is on permanent display in our museum! you've got a midfield of carrick, fletcher and o'shea while we've got gerrard, alonso and sissoko. you've got old red nose on his last legs while the rafa-lution is just starting. you think you're tough but we whack our own players with golf clubs... bro, you may be a dear friend but don't start taking the piss!
