No. You do not pay return shipping if the mistake is on their part, and don't pay shipping the 2nd time either. You should pay for shipping one way.

If you ordered the wrong thing, then you pay return shipping - if you decide you don't want it, then you pay return shipping. If item is clearly and visibly defective or broken, they pay return shipping. It's all very logical.

If they don't do this, I would (a) reverse the charge on the credit card, and (b) hold on to the item until they issue an RMA and have UPS come and pick up the package.

First order of business : stop payment on the credit card (immediately, call the credit card company). Follow that up with an email to the CC company to formalise the order. Tell the online business by email of the problem (in detail - it would help if you had screenshots of your order so that there's no "your word against theirs" crap), and tell them you're going to stop payment till the mess is sorted out. Carbon copy this email to the credit card company, quoting the previous email reference.

*Then* you can sort things out at leisure. It's the company's dime, not yours. As it should be.

This is what I would do. Then again, I have never experienced this myself, so more experienced people may be able to suggest something better. :)

Happened to me last summer, I ordered a clutch kit, rotors, pads, cylinders, rear exhaust, calipers, a few odds and ends.

They send everything in 1 big box the the exhaust was in along with an entire clutch kit sliding around crushing all of the little items and to find out the exhaust doesn't fit the car, the clutch if for a different car and the rotors are for another car. I called the told me to send the items back and when they received them, they would send the correct parts. I did the math and canceled the transaction and told them if they didn't send the correct parts within 24 hours, I would keep the items they sent me and sell them on eBay and of course never do business with them again and bad mouth them in every corner of the world.

Not only did I receive my parts in record time but I also took the 50% discount and didn't pay a dime for shipping anything.

Hold your ground, getting it up the ass isn't a great way to go through life.

Do not stop payment on the credit card....yet. Call the company in question and try to get it sorted out, could've been an honest mistake. If they give you the runaround or try to charge for shipping, then stop it.

Yes, it's good to give the company the benefit of the doubt first. But IIRC, there is a time limit to stop payment. Given that shipment has already taken place, I'd say quite a lot of time has already elapsed, so further action is time-critical.

A good compromise would be to email the online merchant and get a promise from them to make you whole in writing. If they fail to reply to the email in a timely fashion (one to two working days), then go straight to the CC company and let the online business get bent. Some of these online fly-by-nights purposely play stalling tactics so that, by the time the customer finds out they're dishonest, they've already lost the option to reverse the charges. The only option left for the customer is to threaten legal action and that's a money losing proposition in a small deal like this.

I have never had to do a charge back, but isn't the time limit 180 days? Isn't this one of the problems with Ebay and Paypal?

If you're paying VISA bills directly by electronic fund transfer (as I am), I believe the time limit to verbally order a stop-payment is 3 days prior to the date of transfer. The verbal order needs to be confirmed in writing within another 14 days.

I don't know about Paypal, but I would be very careful messing with them, knowing of their service history.

Very good advice. Try to work it out first.

Since you are so far away, before purchasing again from US Companies ask if any of us have had any experiences. It would make things much easier for you.

If we know who it is maybe one of us can help sort it out for you faster.

Did you sell that Enzo key yet?
