    This car 612..
    http://www.dealer.ferrari.com/detail?template=/ferrari_com/hitlistdetail&vid=12200100&make=12&model=1951&yearfrom=2006&yearto=2007&franchise=12&pn=11&lang=en&country2=US&curr=USD&vids=12200101,12258360,12200100&vidindex=2

was piled up at the end of my street by a 16 yr old and his friends..Brand new..At least the kids were ok even though they were reported going over 100+ mph on a residential street(25mph limit) and tried to run from the scene.

..The story is his dad purchased the car for his son..Strange car for a 16 yrs old

A car like that to a 16 year old kid ? What an irresponsible dad ... I would purchase an old Suzuki to my 16 year old son, learning how to drive, and wreck it sedately ...

Yes, great combo. I don't buy the story that it was bought for the 16yo... more like the 16yo crashed his dads new car. Even if they have all the money in the world, the 612 is not a young guy car...

How badly was the car damaged?
And isn't the car ridiculously expensive anyway?

i've always said this, no matter how wealthy i am, my kids are in no way going to get a car like that for their first. mine was a 97 pontiac sunfire, something that couldn't go over 100 mph, and by the time i got up to highway speed, i was getting off the highway. i moaned to my parents about the car, but in hindsight, any other car i probably would have destroyed by now. c'mon, a 612 for your son? part of me tells me that life must be nice for them, but another part of me is screaming out why?

Ferrari of Quebec have a Superamerica available in this same color combination. Very nice colors seldom seen together.

sad end to a nice car.. a 612 deserves better than that...

glad he wasnt hurt (testament to the car)... but as punishment, for the next 5 years he should own/drive a 1988 Yugo.

    with no air conditioning.

    and consider himself lucky...

Haha, I remember asking my dad for a car for my 16th. I even found an old 85 Golf GTI beat COMPLETELY to hell for 800 bucks. He told me he'd get me fuzzy dice if I bothered to get off my a** and buy it myself.

Sorry but I find the 16-yr old kid story a bit hard to believe. I just exactly the same story e-mailed to me, but this time it was concerning the Enzo that was crashed by the Swedish Gizmodo guy on the Pacific Coast HWY last year, who was in his forties.

Same yada-yada in the e-mail about how it had 9 miles on the clock (it didn't), lent it to it his son.

It may be true but it certainly is strange the same story keeps popping up.

I was enlighted on the story yearlier today while at the Ferrari dealership. The car was purchased for his son-no joke, his son had 3 others in the car all who were not hurt.

It is more a story of a family going through a difficult divorce and this was the 16th bithday present. Not unheard out here..

I think the Grigio suits the 612 and 599 better than red...

if true, it serves the father right for letting his kid drive like that in a residential area.

I have 3 sons and helped them buy cars. I could have bought them myself but wanted them to have a "stake" in the outcome and made a deal they also needed to pay 1/3 of all repair costs. It worked well and today as they are all in late 20's they have a tendency to both appreciate fine cars and respect them. Best

That is one of the prettiest 612s I've ever seen.

Seriously, what kind of parent buys their new-driver kids hardware like this. I'm currently in college and some of the cars I've seen kids rolling in include a Lingenfelter-modded C5 Z06, a Dodge Viper, various 911s, a couple AMG Benzes, a E39 M5, various Vettes, a CTS-V, a Saleen Mustang, and a Lotus Elise. A guy I know knows of a kid up in Northern VA whose parents bought him a Diablo as his first car. Are we just gonna strap our kids to a missile and hope it doesn't explode?
