Why are they comparing a 17 year old 450hp Porsche with a 1 year old 1001hp Bugatti...? I think the result is a given. I'd like to see a Formula 1 car versus the Bugatti. Or at least a McLaren F1 or Koenigsegg CCR.
Cool vids. You are right, everyone knew the end result. Still fun to watch. Would be more fun to watch Mac F1 or Keonigg against the Veyron in such runs. I have seen the specs and I think on paper, the Veyron beats them all, but a video would be cool to see.
The Bugatti will beat them all! It will even beat an F1 car, even though it will lose initially to acceleration. However, top speed it will kill an F1. You're forgetting something important: the Veryon cannot be compared to any car, because it is in a class of its own. I don't say this for the price or the speed, but for the luxury: LUXURY AND SPEED. Show me such a car other than the Veyron!
When hitting its top speed, the Veyron is allowed to remove its wing from producing extra drag and downforce, I'm sure if you reconfigure the wing's of the F1 car, the F1 would still come out ahead due to lower frontal area, - however, I'm not sure an F1's tires are made for 250MPH.
What do you mean by "initially" ? An F1 car will beat the Veyron to 300km/h by a good 5 - 6 seconds, depending on wing settings and gearing. The F1 car's power to weight ratio absolutely demolishes the Veyron. The reason the Veyron beats the F1 car in top speed is mostly due to the drag created by the F1 car's exposed tyres. Even so, they can reach just under 370km/h with a Monza setup.
The Bugatti will still beat it in top speed! Again, you're comparing apples to oranges: Formula 1 Cars: Purposely built race cars, engines rebuilt frequently, different gearing, etc. Bugatti Veyron: Built for comfort and speed, engine not rebuilt after every race, gearing cannot be changed, much heavier, streetable, etc. So after all this for the Veyron to still kill an F1 in top speed is admirable!
Unfortunately - no. A specially prepped Honda F1 car (minimum drag setup) hit 413,205km/h (against the Veyron's 407,5km/h) during tests for their Bonneville 400 project (in which they actually failed to hit 400 ).
Youre the one who said it'd beat an F1 car in the first place! Did anyone else notice that in the second video at 3:11 of run time when they pulled into switch passengers, the front brake discs were still glowing?
And keep in mind, the Honda F1 car setup was FIA legal so it could run like that in an F1 race without failing inspections. However, the teams wouldn't race with that setup since it has less downforce with the rear-wing plates removed.

Brakes are awesome!! You could run your Veyron hard around the track in Winter and then pull up and get warm off the glowing brake rotors!
The cars weighs a hefty 1800kg I think. Thats alot of weight to pull up at the speed this thing does. I wonder how the pedal feels when the front brakes are red hot like that? Wonder if there is still a full strong pedal?
