Is it me or does the current XK look pretty damn good...I dont see them very much but when I do it always reminds of an Aston Martin, nice classy wide look especially with the larger wheel setup...I was impressed...even my GF actually commnted on one which says something..

Dont know much about reliablity on these lately though, a little underpowered on the base model, but I like it.

Thay are truly girl cars, albeit poorly made. My wife had made comments about how pretty the XK8 was. So I bought her one for her 40th birthday. She was extatic to say the least. That lasted two years when I bought her an SL 500 instead. Night and day between a pretty car and a quality car.

".....even my wife commented" on how the Jag was a tin box.

They look good from the side, from the front they look like a focus.

There is a long waiting list for the coupe so apparently allot of buyers agree that they look fantastic.

Jaguar has left a lot to be desired since 1987 (when Ford started screwing around).

The XK looks too much like the Ford Taurus. The XK, however, is one of finest GTs this poor college kid ever had the pleasure of getting inside of. There are two critiques that come out for the XK. Motor Trend gave the XK a five-star rating, praising the handling and road manners. Sports Car International liked the car, but felt it paled in comparison to the Mercedes SL, when it came to the cabin and speed. I enjoyed driving the XK. The ride was soft and the steering was precise. I didn't have a problem with the interior or the padel-shifter. I do feel the XK is too expensive for the kind of power it offers. I am also disappointed that the XK didn't do enough along the lines of the lightweight concept coupe. It's no BMW 6 series, but it's still far from being light.

That is a flawed statement. Ford saved Jaguar from going the way of a lot of British marques. Jaguar's quality crumbled in the 1970s when it was no longer able to run quality control after a loss of funds. Jaguar was able to pull away from British/Leyland, but it factories were rotting away and there was no money for R&D. Ford chose to buy it before GM did and found tens of product faults from a brand new car. Ford, off the sales success of the Taurus and the Sable, was able to rebuild Jaguar's quality-control department and add money for new product development. Ford Motor transformed Aston-Martin from a has-been car brand making five hundred units per year to a world-class exotic carmaker selling nine times that number.

Its a pretty car and its solid. It may not be up to german standards but its quite nice. A big improvement over the xk8 imo. Especially the R version with the supercharger! :)

Alot of people knock them because women like them (and say the guys who do are gay, which it does seem many are, hell Jag even advertises to them!)

But there is no denying its a sexy car with a great sounding engine. It handles well, is fun to drive its just great. I'd drive one, to bad about the asking price though :( but when you think about it (just ask clarkson!) its a bargain compared to say a aston martin vantage.

I'd say ford should be commended for the work they've done with jag and am they've made some blunders in regards to both but that was mostly due to financing

My dealer won't even sell the coupe they have because they need to keep it at the dealer for people to see and try, they want you to order off it. I think what happened is they expected everyone to get the convertible but instead everyone wants the coupe.

Clarkson is a little schizo on this issue. He hyped the XK recently, but when his (short) list of cars worth owning came out, the Jag didn't make it, and the V8 Vantage did. Hey, the Vantage is even in the fridge, and I don't think the jag even made "cool". Face it, the Jag is for grannies (or people that drive like them). No offence intended to the few grannies out there with good taste.

That is exactly what happened. There is a story somewhere about it, I’ll post it if I can find it.

It is a dull car - the least sensuous thing Jaguar has produced since the forgettable XJS. The grille is corporate Ford, but it gets even more innocuous as you walk around it. The front looks tacked on, the side 'gills' are awkward and the thing is just timid looking.

The one I was in was some sickly beige color. Truly an octogenarian car. Comfy but boring.

It's prettier than the BMW 6, but they're both obese nerd-mobiles.

The Maserati GS, Porsche 911 and Aston V8 are the class acts in this segment. I love Jaguar, but they just fumbled this one badly. Callum put his best work into the AM line.

The new one is way to generic looking for me.

I think the previous generation XK is a much better looking car - a modern update of one of the most beautiful cars ever made - the E-type. I've considered selling my old SL and buying an XKR convertible on several occasions.

    Still might...

Indeed. My fav modern (post 60s) Jag is still the 96 X300 XJ12.

In the case of the old XJ, for every 20 vert I'd see I'd see one coupe. Now even less so with the new version. I personally love the Coupe versions of both cars, but the convertible has never done much for me.

Agreed, previous generation was very pretty; (boring to drive, though - complete with squishy brakes). This one has a funny grill design. It is too high up on the car. I read somewhere that they "didn't want to put it that high, but Euro pedestrian safety standards made them do it against their will".

Made me wonder how Porsche is getting away with their 911/997 nose design these days.

I always liked those cars. Too bad they just cried for a manual trany.
