Now now Mike - we don't go back to those bad old days. Just wish I could get Kelly to flog it so that I have more space in the garage for Alfa parts :)

I enquired about these plates yesterday. it is being handled byu a car broker on behalf of the owner. The guy has a new turbo coming in a few months and figures if he can sell the plates (and the car) for a massive profit he will. I asked the guy if he were willing to sell the plates seperately and he got back to me and said yes but it would be around the 100k mark. i told him when he got serious he could call me but the plates are worth around 30-40k only.

Ohhhhh, I thought the ad was just for the plates not that a car comes with it. It doesnt sound as bad but still the number plates price is still lala land prices.

    Badly created ad...

I did use the porsche configurator oz site and to have a turbo in "speedcore" spec was around the $400k mark...

If we recall the recent NSW heritage auction as a guide 288 went for $120k the NSW 997 went for $70k.

Heritage plates have moved sharply upwards in the last 12mths. "989" went for $50k for example, so a more meaningful number like 997 might make more $ to the right person.

2 digit plates are now really serious money (#41 = $218k a few mths back) and the single digits are the realm of the BRW top 200.

Correct. Some 3 digit plates make even more to the right buyer.

I strongly suspect cash rich super fund buyers have pushed the market upwards. There is a lot of super money in self managed funds looking for a fun, legal investment.

Have a look at the Shannon's site under past auctions. There have been dozens sold over the last year. Here are a few examples:

    181.182 made $9000
    282.828 made $9200
    77.177 made $10000
1234 made $47k (how dumb is that)
    2274 made $20k

BTW # 456 is advertised in the Age for $65k ish
